fair luck with your partner I wish my g/f was : 1. mechanically sympathetic enough to even notice when she has initiated another 'repair' to her mondeo (my 5yr old nephew thinks his aunties car is "cool - because its mended with sticky tape" ) 2. would be willing to try the 'silent' treatment. all i get is the (extended) 'vocal' explanation of just where i have gone wrong ;D unfortunately the gathering clashes with my work so i will raise a spiritual glass to all you lucky people wherever i end up that weekend I will however try a bit harder to overcome my social awkwardness next time we are in the same vicinity

I get the silent treatment all the time - usually for about 3 days. It's awesome because I can lock myself away in the garage or do something for 5 minutes without an interruption. The long vocal explanations don't work because I tend to loose interest... then the silent treatment begins.

So, after multiple Youtube upload fails we are now in business. Firstly my thanks to all the organisers for a fantastic day, great show, great atmosphere, great people and great cars. Personal thanks to HotWire, Mr. B. Child (I can't use his forename, what were his parents thinking?) and all the other people I met but then forgot their forum names. Apologies to Mystery Machine and B-8-D for not getting their rides. Where were you guys? Actually there was a rumour that Speedman gaffer-taped and zip-tied Mystery Machine to a cistern in the gents just to take his seat but I just think they've been reading 50 Shades of Grey ;D More apologies for the vids as "THESE VIDEOS HAVE NOT BEEN EDITED FOR YOUR INCONVENIENCE" and you will note I cunningly placed the GoPro to record incipient bald spots so Seth wore a cap, Speedman does not have one and Pandaselecta is too tall for it to be picked up. The videos disprove the scurrilous rumour that both Seth and Speedman screamed like little girls going through Ettore. I can however report that Pandaselecta was somewhat incoherent after his run but then he's from Newcastle and I'm a bit deaf so maybe that also wasn't so Looking forward to RRG13 already. Only 362 sleeps to go!

The Curséd Season?(that's pronounced 'kerr-sedd' and not 'kerst as a little biblical sturm und drang fitted my mood at the time.) So I sat typing this with a Russian Lemon Tea (same as normal lemon tea but with a nip of Russian Standard in it to ward off the damp) at my elbow and Leonard Cohen playing in the background (balalaika music would be better) while I introspectively contemplate the vagaries of Lady Luck as related to life, motorsport and everything in 2012 so far. Until RRG12 (thanks HotWire, Bstardchild and team) not one thing has gone even averagely OK and I'd had some not good news on the health front. So far this season the Goodwood Spring Sprint was afflicted with monsoon rain, a damp misfire and an oil leak. Crystal Palace Weekend was a disaster with a fuel leak that meant I didn't run at all and at Santa Pod the Healey went perfectly but we had a scary tyre blowout on the trailer on the way back. The actual blowout wasn't the problem but tyre changing on the edge of a dual carriageway, waiting for some kn0b to either hit me or the trailer or both, was. Earlier this year the medical establishment were using that nasty 'C****r' word about a health issue I'd had so I dusted off the old bucket list and having sold a load of stuff collected over the years for future projects and I (more than tentatively) entered an event at No. 2 on the list and got in as the first entrant with a 'historically interesting vehicle' so the Healey's on the container ship and I shall be reunited with her in less than 3 weeks for the Bahamas Speed Week Revival. Where's my car A little history is probably necessary here to set the scene. Healey V8's have a period competition history both in Europe and in the States. Their biggest advantage was that bolting a smallblock Chevy into a reasonably nimble (for the day) Healey chassis gave the privateers something to frighten with the likes of Ferraris and Maseratis in the capacity based grids of the time. One driver, Bud Dana (my hero!) at the Nassau Speed Week (precursor of today's event) in 1960 had the works teams chasing his tail from the get-go after a stellar Le Mans start with Moss (yes, that Moss!) stalled on the start line. Bud shows them a clean pair of heels from the Le Mans style start Sadly race teams almost always beat privateers and he was overhauled and came in 1st in class but 10 laps behind the winner but not too shabby in this sort of company The new Speed Weeks is a more relaxed affair than the old with a 'touring' contingent but there's still sprints and a hillclimb and there's also 6 car 'demonstration' races as the Bahamian government widen the track. I've got my new Retro Rides stickers so they know where I come from and I'll send in pictures and reports as they happen should anyone be interested

Too busy to give a real report yet but today was at the official welcome and got chosen to display the old nail at Goverment House tonight. So that means motorcycle outriders and a high speed hoon through central Nassau at rush hour ;D Who said that organisers had no sense of humour and I might be able to inveigle Sir Stirling to join me for a drive later in the week

What I did on my not-Summer Holiday by Frank N. Healey aged 47 3/4 Part 1 I got on the big silver bird to fly to the Carribean knowing the car was already in place and hadn't been damaged in Hurricane Sandy. After an uneventful flight we landed in glorious 27 degree weather and all I could think of is 'she's going to overheat like a curse word' The Venue All the competitive stuff was based in Arawak Cay (pronounced Arawak Key), colloquially known as 'Fish Fry', just outside the capital Nassau, for the pursuit sprint and the hillclimb. The Bahamian government supported the event to increase their media presence and increase tourism hence the UK, USA, Swiss and Kart contingents. There are no circuits or dedicated venues on New Providence (or the rest of the Bahamas) so it was basically cones and street racing. Road surfaces were variable to the point that some goat tracks on the old Acropolis Rally were probably smoother. Just made it more interesting really. After Sandy had put the preparations back by 10 days the locals were working through the night to put up Armco and finish the circuit. The Competitors Both Stirling Moss (Event patron) and Derek Bell were in attendance. Had a nice chat with Derek who told me his first car was a 100 but mine seemed to be considerably quicker. From the UK we had Jonathan Turner's orginal Jaguar C-type that Stirling had rolled comprehensively at Silverstone in a previous life. Stirling was driving his Osca, Ron Gammons was there with his Devin and there was a Bristol Cooper. The Americans brought the BoCar XP-5, a Viper SRT10 with all tricks, a DeLorean that never managed 88mph (no Mr. Fusion either), a Daimler SP250 and a couple of Ferraris in their own semi-trailers (makes the Goddess look a bit sick). The locals produced a couple of 'continuation' Speedsters, an E-type racer, three Cobras, a wedge TVR. The Swiss brought some touring classics including a Merc 180SL, Healey 3000 and another earlier Viper. There was other stuff but you'll hopefully spot them in the pictures. The non-competition bit As the event was partly to promote the Bahamas we had 5 days of junkets before the weekend competitive sections. First thing to do was to sign on and pick up the magic BSWR number plates. Official number plate These would probably do as well ;D The Bahamas Government issues these to all entrants which means that we were all road registered, insured and safety vetted (policeman came and slammed my tyres and kicked the doors) and this allowed us to all ignore any traffic laws (most Bahamian drivers follow this course anyway). When asked about drink driving laws a policeman admitted that it was allowed. "So you can have a drink and then drive afterwards" I asked, "Yes" he replied, "You can also drink while driving". I can assure you that the Clerk of the Course was not taking such a relaxed attitude when he saw me with a beer Some entrants More to follow later

Gentlemen,
Thanks for your kind advice and I will comply but my problem is that after taking 10 days off from work and a 31 hour delay on return (#basucks) I have a very busy week upcoming. There are at least two more parts to come including the vids. Please be patient and I'll get round to it ASAP.
Cheers,
Ian
