Me, I like tools and it's always a nice experience to have to buy one that you have an actual need for. Not having a Bugatti Tipo 35A that seems to have every nut and bolt lockwired I never thought I'd have a use for one of these However the new Webers have small wingnuts on the top and they are expensive to replace if they come undone and fall off. They also have a small hole in one 'ear' of the wingnut which is highly suitable for wiring Having been abandoned by the rest of the Goddess crew due to the weather I ambled down the garage to tighten down the rocker covers to stop an oil weep and play with the new tool. Ten minutes later we were all safety wired up And let us not forget that the joy of sex eventually fades (96 years old with me please : but the joy of tools (and retro rides) is with you forever ;D

Bottom left carb is reverse lock wired You should always try and have the lock wire in the direction "doing up" the nut/bolt. Now you've got a decent pair of pliers you'll wire all sorts of parts that "could just do with some lockwire"

Well Goodwood has come and gone and I didn't get as far as getting the graphics done due to the selected vinyl company fannying around and losing my emails three times over a four week period and general disinterest. However it's Crystal Palace on Sunday and there's lots of kids there (including me) so I rang another company and it took three days ;D They're lousy cameraphone pictures because as I was getting the car back to the Bat Cave there were some gentlemen of the scrap persuasion hanging around the estate after hours. Luckily I had recently lubricated the fold back scenery and fake boulder and managed to get under cover without being seen. Toothy When the windscreen is folded down it'll look better I am not a snapper

Motorsport - that curse word-Whore-Queen that sucks you in, leaves you skint and heartbroken and then spits you out wanting to sell the car and take up gardening. For a £220 outlay in fees and fuel for Crystal Palace I was left with this handful of souvenirs and a scrute sticker So you get up at 3.45am for a 2.5 hour trailer pull to Sarf London (the organisers want you to sign in from 7.15 and have walked the track : . You start to unload and you note the small marks on the trailer floor but that must be the unreachable rocker cover leak or maybe a little coolant. Sure it smells of fuel but that's the Webers; isn't it? A quick run down to the paddock and the smell of Mr. BP's finest is worse than ever. Off with the bonnet, on with the fuel pumps and fuel is p1ssing out the back of #2 carb. Must be floats or needle valve so off with top of carb, fiddle with everything, reassemble carb, on with pump, still leaks. Repeat another 6 times which included a 10 minute search for a dropped valve needle in the grass . Obvious I'm not going to fix it with the tools I've brought so leave bonnet off, get the extinguisher ready and drive off with massive fuel leak over the left hand exhaust fanimold. Only bright spot of this time was the old boy who sauntered over and said "I had one of these", moved round to the side of the car and saw the shark teeth and exclaimed "Oh!" and moved off sharpish. RESULT! ;D Back in the trailer So off to Pete's today after claiming an emergency day off for sickness in the family ( the car is like my child or is it the other way round?) and it looks like the carb is leaking from the plate with four screws underneath the body. So that's all four carbs off to see if all are affected. Maybe it'll be simple? There's always something interesting around Pete's because of all the small automotive shops on the estate. Another Healey being built up

Arf Arf at the bay window.
Did you not get any track time in at all I guess? That sucks. Really can't wait to hear it at full chat one day.

Did you not get any track time in at all I guess? . No track time at all but even if I was going quickly the CP sprint is so short that I'd have had less than 2 minutes overall for the whole day! For my sins I had to tow the Great White Whale of a trailer back through Dulwich, Fulham, Chelsea and Hammersmith to pick up the M4 due to accidents on the M25 and M3. That would have been stressful enough if it was not for the charity bike ride we found ourselves in the middle of.

Really sorry to hear about your carb and traffic maladies, sucks like a Dyson. But hey, you’ve now got a shiny new mug to put under the car and catch the dripping fuel….! Sorry we didn't get to see you run, better luck next time mate.

Glorious car. Just read the whole thread. Hope you manage to get things all sorted and have some decent amount of time to play rather than fix her! With the graphics I'm taking it as a sign that I need to put something similar on my next purchase (hopefully) as last night, as you do, I was feeling the need for some WWII fighter inspired silliness in my life... Aaron.

I now want sharks teeth on my Dolly... Excellent. I do love an Austin Healey!
Strange question approaching! What size are the nuts that hold your rear numberplate light on? I have the same one (Lucas 467 I think?) but it has no nuts! Cheers.

Elmo,
Can't get at the car until the weekend, will check then but suspect it's a BA size.
Cheers,
Ian

.... and the culprit for the recent dismal failure to race at Crystal Palace is ..... .....wait for it ( a la every lousy reality show on TV ) ..... just a little more tension now TA - DA Yup the 2p's worth of gasket on the bottom plate of the carb. Seems they have gone over to a polymer gasket from the old paper ones and it looks like they shrink when exposed to fuel (in a carburettor : DUH!

Frankenhealey I am very cross at you. I sat at the staging area at retro show for ages waiting to get a shot of you doing a warmup burnout, and you just rolled up with no smoke or flames I hung around your car in the paddock for ages hoping to meet you in person, but no - you cant be bothered to stand around talking to plebs I came back later and you had just upped sticks and went home on the positive side the car was looking great ;D I was a bit skeptical about the shark teeth in your pics but it really suits the car in the flesh hope to catch you next time

Hey Mel, Sorry for being absent but 1) I'll talk to anyone about cars including passing dogs 2) I was away from the Healey talking to other people about cars 3) No burnouts at the Pod as I was on my road tyres and I'll never do better than mid-12's on them, warmed or not. The Pod was all about seeing how the Webers were at what. THEY ROCK ;D 4) I pee'd off early because a) the rain came, b) it's 160 mile tow back home and c) SWMBO had taken an unhealthy interest in the trailer tyres. After some heated words and me changing the spare onto the trailer in the pouring rain thereby replacing the 'worst' tyre in her estimation we left in the silence that only long term couples, that have really practiced, can pull off. After 50-ish miles I had a feeling that something was awry and pulled over onto the edge of a fast dual carriageway to find one of the approved tyres had blown out Luckily it was on the nearside and I managed to get the now 'faulty' spare on without some kn0b running up the back of the trailer. An unventful rest of the journey ensued and she's buying me a new set of tyres for her peace of mind. Result ;D Maybe catch up at the Gathering and if I'm away just leave a note under a wiper.
