Same as general thread but this is the one that will be updated in time... I did it again! Yep, last year you may remember me hoisting this thing 'from the canal' and a moderate amount of cash to get it home! which is never the best time of year as it was approx Jan-Feb-March! retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=1145816129&page=1well you know what it is! Many thanks to Top Man Twigsy for his help, and other retroers that have helped out with this. As every antique collector on here, I was feeling the need for a new project or 'solution to the problem', I also fancied a sunroofed Koop, and wanted to takes the skirts of my '89 mk1b, Ooo er! well roll it all together, and I spotted this over christmas . The guy wanted to get 'his money back' for this 'solid car', I went for an half ar$ed look around and decided its gonna be big money before its done, and no where local to put it and work on it. so didnt insult the man. It needs an head gasket job doing, along with general tidy up new wipers, leccy windows, and treatment of any small or big rust areas found. along with the usual other stuff that will be knackered: brakes, tyres etc. A month of chewwing over the ideas of buying an '85 roadworthy or not, and chewwing over a BX16v that also came up(!), I chucked in a bid the owner could refuse! Another attempt, I thought fugg it, another project wont hurt and met him a bit closer to his price!! Still goes ok (for a few yards that is). and looks better than mine was pre surgery, I think it has had a few pro fixes if anything... like on the wheelarches, need minor attention again I think like my least favourate fix, should look like this: sparezorz my biggest worries: windscreen top needs attention, I think the screen is diy removable, if need be. and this is the A pilar, owt to worry about there? sould be ok to treat. And Sierra fans, this wont be queue jumping again as such, So fix the 16v, install a 20v, or lob £,£££'s at a turn key MK2turbo conversion? Noice but not so realistic. What you's think?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Id fix its own great engine, but what kind of 20v are you talking about?
Cheers! Graham

yeah if I don't get much feed back here i'll start a 4age tuning advice thread. I wanna keep it and squeeze some extra powaar out on its rebuild, and I aim to do the rebuild myself, which will be the first time I have been inside an engine! I have a photo guide I picked up online so that should help. Anyway, a hot cam should help yeah, and are throttle bodies a big hassle? lot of people say no point tuning em so i'll get to the bottom of that one, i'd love to turbo it or summat but i'll be the first to admit its a little advanced for me, and not sure these engines cope with it well... doesnt stop me planning the whole crazy operation though!!!

Silvertop 20V bottom end from an AE101 Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno, with a Blacktop 20V head from the AE111 model, suitable turbo manifold, suitable turbo... and woooooosssh.
Seriously though, the 20V swap is fairly well worth it, there's a lot of guys around NZ who have done the swap, with great results.
Your factory bluetop 4AGE will cope ok with forced induction too btw, they're a fairly hardy wee motor.

IMO the standard 4a-ge isnt that great for strapping a turbo on you are better using a 4A-GZE, as it is a stronger engine because of the supercharger, pull the charger off and get a manifold, turbo and away you go

This is true, all depends how serious you want to get, but there have been a lot of instances where the bluetops in particular have endured low boost setups reliably with extra fuelling and an appropriate compression drop.
Silvertop 20V 4AGE's share the same stronger internals as the 4AGZE as well.

looks nice that early one, great condition for its age- seen worse F reg's than that! i personally would NA tune the current 4age, some throttle bodies and megasquirt, lumpy cams and a nice 9K redline- but i'm odd and prefer stuff like that to Fi !!! Keep us posted on progress matey

Keep us posted on progress matey Thanks. this is the recipe thats most realistic and the one I fancy most. I have an hell of a lot to learn! The standard injection wont like lumpy cams will it? thats why it needs throttle bodies. yeah? the black box isnt chippable, I don't think, unless there are some masters out there. BTW the earlier engines perk up at a lower RPM than later one, so that should be fun out of the box, and teh earlier, sunroofed ones are a bit lighter too. from imoc Imported from the other thread. Excellent stuff! Glad you finally secured it and found somewhere to house it! Looks pretty darn tidy for the price! Looks very nice in silver too, suits it well. Hard to tell how deep the grot is on the A pillar, best thing to do is get a wire wheel on the job and see if it comes out, then treat it. If you find a hole, well its not so bad, just some creative metalwork needed! Will be an awesome project Reanimation this is awesome! Have a lot of love for these cars! Ace Cheers, as I mentioned my initial check round teh car was not so meticulous (sp)! so I really was getting worried about what i'd find today. problem now is fixing the others and selling a few. The white one will be my summer fun well till C.A.R.S.@ santapodz then who know, everything has a price though so if you are intersted in teh white one plz drop me a PM. Tired but in a good mood now! W00T rip motah outta the white one swap clutches all the good bits from yours use on the silver one job done part off the white one would get autoscreens to whip out the front you could fix the rust yerself don't look too bad bit o flatting about the place and should be ok no skirts on this one FTW To be fair I ignored Quad cam(ry) V6's and V8's they are also available turn-key, although not sure where the v8 comes from, maybe it is lexus that would be mad. I'm happy with a crazy revver. Likely a rebuild and bit of a diet, for now. don't know if you are interested butI have two mk1 MR2 alloys you can have if you want. Probably best described as wanting a refurb. If you do let me know and I will bring em down tomorrow. Good choice there. I have always liked them in silver. It seems to suite them better good on you mate, never have too much stuff I am starting to like these mk1 MR2's............in fact I feel ebay calling............must resist!!!!
