Ever since some low life scumbag nissan sunny driving #@&$ decided to write my project maxi off ive been thinking of what to get next. I wanted to go rear wheel drive as ive never owned RWD before and I know how much fun it can be. Ive now decided to put one of my dads car on the road, its been sitting and the drive for afew months and needs a bit of work on it for the mot, but itll be fun, and a good stop-gap untill I find something I want. The old project (RIP, soon(ish) to be banger raced) was this Now ive 'upgraded' to this Unfortunatly its not the blue one

All 3 Maxi's I've just seen look cool to me! That blue one does look a minter tho! Without trying to change the topic too vastly, I reckon banger racing a car that's unrepairable for road use isn't such a bad idea.

the cars definatly unrepairable, all the impact was taken on the towbar and its pushed all the boot floor forward and even bent the back seat. it did sting abit to say the least. It doesnt look too bad untill you open the boot tho, then it all goes a bit pete tong. That blue one is a proper minter, it was up at the NEC for the classic motor show last weeken and received many admiring glances, its got a 10 disc changer and central locking don't ya know!

In some ways these old BL cars are like old Skodas.....hated by many when current or a few years old, but now they're "properly old" they've become more popular and appreciated by a wider range of people. I did a 5 year apprentiship in an Austin/Rover dealer from 1988 and I used to hate BL cars, but now am rather fond of them.

All it needs for the mot is a bit of welding on the back of the sills and on the inner wing. Also a set of tyres and probably afew gaiters here and there, i wouldnt expect any more than that. When the green one got hit it proved what we already knew about the car - it was totaly rot free, the impact was enough to crease the rear arches and bend the floor but none of the seams on the backend split as you would expect if there was any sort of rot. The rally rep was originaly built as a london/sidney car, but he skimped on the stickers. its got the door number squares and the plaque on the boot but all the sponsership stickers are quite random. If i can get the stickers off without taking the paint off, which is unlikley, ill get some proper stickers done for it. I drove the car about for abit a couple of years ago when my car was off the road and the amout of looks it gets is silly!

just leave the stickers on, unless they are embarrasing or offensive of course

the stickers arnt offensive or anything, they ARE sponsership stickers, just the wrong ones, the only stickers that are comming off for sure are the ''bluebell railway'' and such like stickers. don't get me wrong, i think the place is cool, full of atmosphere, but i don't realy want it stuck on my ride! Another nice touch on that car is now its getting a few years old the paints a bit faded and so are the stickers, and theres a nice dent in the front wing that paps did when he reversed out of a mates drive and hit a 2 foot high post in the dark. Bearing in mind it was one week after he painted the car and said front wing was a brand new leyland item he was curse word off to say the least! That was untill i said it makes the car look more authentic....... now as times passed it looks the tits! lol
What might shock you about the green one is....... chicks loved it! like some sort of mascot i guess, many a tear was shed when it passed...................

pull the offending stickers on and see what happens, u could either laquer over the scar (if there is one) or patch it up with paint. a couple of missing sticker marks would look cool

i think i might try and look for the right stickers and see if i can put them over the top of the old ones, the paint will no doubt come off if i try and pull them off, they went on as soon as the paint was dry.
ive just had an idea - big roof rack and two spare wheels on it. What d'ya think?

rack would be cool, what about a big number circle on the bonnet??

I got the green one back from the bodyshop yesterday - its been sitting outside for months without being run and we just cleaned the points up and it started! Battery must be a good'en! We got the car back in the afternoon and by 4.30 it was almost completly stripped ready for racing.
Now for the bad bit. As we were stripping that one we had another look round the white one. The rust is too bad. its on the inner wing just above the subframe and has completly rotted out between two mounting points. To do it properly would mean taking the engine and subframe out, and replacing the inner wing - which also involves taking the outer wing off and i beleive removing the front panel - and i need a car by tuesday!
It looks like weve condemed two tax free cars in one day. I feel ill.

the cars definatly unrepairable, all the impact was taken on the towbar and its pushed all the boot floor forward and even bent the back seat. it did sting abit to say the least. Now if you'd folded up the wings, welded plates on the doors, stuck a cage and seats in it then roller painted it bright yellow.. well ... then it wouldn't have hurt...

Oh don't you worry, its going to hurt alright! Theres 'afew' people who want to put their mark on the back of that car so i don't think its going to be an easy introduction to bangers lol!
