hello to all, my polos been off the road since july, and it was parked up on the drive for 2 months, but since september ive been busy with it so I thought it was about time I shared my progress here A quick reminder pic of how it was.
The original plan was just a simple respray with mk3 bumpers, but i changed my mind and decided i would go back with the mk2 bumpers along with your average single headlight setup. I Havent got any pics of the bodywork prior priming, but theres enough of everything else:) started by doing the head gasket which i don't have any pictures of. then went on to strip the car down fully and start from inside.
Then Put the primer on after sorting all dents, and i had a problem with the arches. The previous owner had the whole car resprayed with the arches on, so the layers was a nightmare.
next stage was to flat it back and shot on a first coat of Tafetta green
I was happy with how it come out, but i needed some form of extraction as the overspray was quite bad in my
garage, so i cut half a block out of the wall, and bolted this pritty little rad fan over the hole. As you can
see in the pic, it was on during the second coat and worked amazingly!!
Few more pics after paint..
Strange lighting on this one.. not sure what happened
the wheels i currently have for it is these Speedlines.
Iv'e had previous attempts of painting, but this time i had very good equipment, and tips from a pro at glossycars.com.. just check out the finish they get !
Ok, up untill this point, the car was still having mk3 bumpers and my sqaurelight grill, but as ive bailed on
that plan, Ive had to order a new lower front panel as you can see in the picture below, the current one is shafted. also the slam panel needs replacing as i cut out the headlight boxes to fit my square grill, plus its been badly painted with hammer rite (by myself admitedly)
So as these sexy new panels came today, i spent the good part of this evening chopping my front end up. I was sceptical about doing this as ive never Cut off welded panels, but there nout to be scared off, factory tacs are weak:)
Once it was all off, i found some rust under the headlight sqaure thingy. clearly a nasty water trap area, so the underseal will go on twice as thick in those areas. The engine bay is being left unpainted untill next year when I'm finaly going to drop a G in it(Depending on thier availability at the time )
I'm currently in a possition of wet sanding the laquers orange peel, and then ill have to get the panels welded on. I'm hoping to have it ready by chrismas but as i want it "completed", that would include the WL motorsport kit, and a G engine, so it might be rolling out of the garage only to end up going back in within a few months. I'm quite happy running around in this for now though
updates will prob be weekly so keep watching.
..PS. Xray-cat, where are those springs matey... the boat needs sinking!
