Right, I know that this is kind of a re-post, but in the other thread it was more just mentioned in passing and the Ratrod dominated, so I thought now's the time for its own, prob because i've finally bought a donor car for the last bits! She's a '74 Hillman Imp Deluxe, I've owned her now for nearly 6 years. Most of the time she has spent just sitting in the Garage unloved as I have had far to many comiitments and not enough cash to do owt with her. Basically what i've done is get drunk then go at her with the grinder (I wish it was in jest). First the roof came off and she was going to be a Speedster type affair, then I decided to stick a bike engine in the back. As bike engines don't have much torque I decided to do some weight saving, and thats how she got to this state! All thats left is the floor pan and the outer shell, everything else is gone and replaced by a homebuilt spaceframe. I decided to bin the bike engine idea so I've just bought a donor MK1 MR2 which I plan to use the engine and drivetrain from, plus all the suspension, hubs, brakes etc... Anyways, onto some pics! This is where i'll be sitting, with a big grin on my face Notice the 52*3mm tubes that make up the passenger compartment Here's what hold the rear suspension in and the body up at the back, though there's a lot more to come one i have the engine in to work around All the panels that used to open are now welded shut and half way through filling And for those Imp purists out there, the only bit of rust on the whole car was this

No plans as yet for the engine, i mean 0-60 in 4.6secs and a quarter in 13.6 aint to shabby straight out of the box!
Plus i'm told if i add a free flowing filter and do something about the very restricitive (Some MR2 people say it loses 20bhp from it???) exhaust it should be a little happier.

I think duck-egg blue/green paint, completely smoothed, tiny aero screen, fibreglass tonneau cover for the passenger compartment (better aerodynamics with only the driver), roll hoops and moon discs.

Lakes style like what Penski said but with green scallops over the front and some dried on salt. And you must drive it wearing a straw cowboy hat.

I was thinking matt black, cause basically i have a big tin of it, or i do have a nice bright orange from a 126 i once owned, or there's white with a red stripe?
The screen will be perspex and about 8-10 inches high, the engine will be covered with a fibreglass sheet. I wasn't gonna bother will roll hoops, but thinking about it, i suppose its for the best, hey i might even move the drivers seat to the middle, how sweet would that be?

cool project! i presume you are building this to compete? in which case, i hope you are building it with the MSA rulebook in one hand. It looks like not all the tube is the same dia which is why i say - would be aweful to get it done and then not pass scrutineering!

Nah, just gonna RWYB it! See if i can embarass so modern tin.
Then i was hoping to steadily bring her up to road legal spec, which to be fair wont be hard as the MOT is pretty much a joke ;p

so its not a real drag car then lol ;D i would strongly recommend you get the MSA rule book and work to that then mate. trust me, you will rwyb - and then decide to compete. Then if you have to make ammendments it will curse word you off cos you'll think 'why didnt i do it like that in the first place' thinking about it, its probably cheaper to compete than it is to do rwyb's. (in terms of number of runs per £) ive gone that route myself. Mine isnt even being built to rwyb, but i know how these things go.
