Certainly is an improvement on the 106 I've been piloting up until now! As I said on the imp club which I think a few of you have seen, I probably shouldnt be doing this yet as I havent picked her up yet, so am probably tempting fate, but I can't wait till Saturday!! So here she is, Hillman Imp Super, Caribbean blue, 22'000 miles (looks genuine) MOT'd, tax'd yadda yadda yadda! Few planned mods, only wheels and springs will be seen though, but after advice from the club they're going to wait for a while with the exception perhaps of new radiator and mountney steering wheel! Next thing I suppose is how many rr's around Leeds? Hope you like!

Personally I'd get the wheels and springs asap, it looks so much cooler and handles better.
Nice car though, like the colour.
I'm near Leeds.

Looks to be a lovely Imp mate. Reminds me of when i first got mine! don't lower it, it dosnt need it at all. Today there are many rally and track Imps that use the standard suspension, there is a reason for that. They handle extreamly well as bog standard, i've heard many people say the Imp was the best handling car of its day when it rolled out of the factory for the first time. It is debatable whether the usual 'Monte Carlo' lowering springs are worth it anyway, with about a 1" drop, dose not make much of a difference for the handling IMO. Mines compleatly standard, handles like a go-kart and will hit the wrong side of 80mph happily. They are amazing little cars and look great modified, but 70% of the time you simply don't need to modify them and you end up spoiling a very nice original, already very good car. Keep it as it for a while and see how things go Having said that it would look good on some minilites

The pickup went well...... the drive home didnt!! Unfortunately the original head gasket doesn't seem to like motorway driving! Went after about an hour on the road unfortunately! Two tow ropes and lots of cursing at my Dad later and we rolled home! Welcome to classic car motoring i suppose

Well I've owned the imp for about a month now and have loved every minute of it (almost!) I've already done about 800 miles in that month however so I may need to think about upgrading my insurance policy from the 4500 miles it's currently limited to! Anyway, there is a reason for dragging up such a dead thread, it's becuase I've finally got round to taking some pictures! I spent the morning playing around with the timing and finally think i've got it about right, and in the afternoon I drove for about half an hour out of the city centre today in search for some countryside, armed with a friends camera! I'm certainly pleased with the spot I found! No siginificant changes to report yet, so instead I hope you like the photos!

Hey peeps, just thought I'd up date! After the crash detailed here, the car needed two new tyres and a new exhaust manifold to be roadworthy again. (The nearside headlight was simply jammed into place!) But the car was good and took my all the way home from Leeds to Essex without too many problems. The only real issue was about 150miles into the journey it would stutter and jerk like crazy unless pretty much under full throttle. This was presumably caused by some crud working its way into the carb, probably due to the "inversion" incident! Anyway, a strip down of the carb and fuel pump soon resolved this. The next issue was to try and sort the slight pull to the right under braking, caused by a leaky front right wheel cylinder. For this I took a trip across the Thames to a club member in Kent, he had very kindly offered to help me out. When we jacked the car up however, he was rather corncerned about the fact that just about all the brake components appeared to be about 30 years/old original! This made the simple task of changing a wheel cylinder FAR more complicated due to 30 years of rust keeping everything together! It was finally replace, but when bleeding the system, nothing was happening, really struggled, and eventually it was noticed that fluid was being pushed UP and OUT of the resevoir: Diagnosed as a naff seal in the master cylinder! This left me stuck on Colins drive and needing a lift home! Thanks to Mr B, who leant me an A frame, we were able to get home! I replaced the master cylinder at home, but then decided due to the fact that everything appeared to be original, I should overhaul the whole braking system. All new parts were order, hoses, shoes, cylinders, the lot. I attempted to do this myself, but bad weather/feeling fairly downhearted due to lack of progress eventually persuaded me to give it to the pros to do! I figure first time round I may as well let them do it properly. Then it should be alot easier next time I wish to try it myself! (And it was also a good chance to give them some new lower front springs to fit!) I went to pick it up last weekend and was dead chuffed! The brakes were brilliant and it looked ace sitting lower at the front! Sadly though, after driving around a bit it became evident that the radiator was not retaining water at all, something I've always had a bit of a problem with since owning the car Sunday morning when I was due to come back to Leeds (and stop off at the Newark autojumble!), I couldnt even start it without it emptying the contents of the radiator! So it would appear I now need to replace the head gasket and it is possible that 2 of the liners may have sunk as well, which would mean far more serious engine work required So basically, I'm back in Leeds whilst the car is still in Essex! Worst thing is that you can still start it up and it idles beautifully, just you cant do anything with it because there is no cooling!!

Well, took a bit of trawling but managed to find this thread Nothing particularly interesting to say, but thought I'd update anyway Not been updated for aaaaaaaaaaaages and tbh, most of it's stories have been posted elsewhere, but a breif summary for you: Since the last update, I had to pretty much give up on the car and head off back to uni. In the summer however, she got blessed with a new engine- a 60thou overbore, taking it to 915cc, with slightly better head and slightly sportier cam. The Imp National started on Thursday 9th August. The engine went in on Sunday 5th, but didn't get started until Weds 8th! Started her up that morning, down the MOT station in the afternoon, and the following day, I was in convoy round the M25 to Paddock Wood for the National!!!!! LOVE IT! Since then, I have done about 1000miles in the car and just getting the most out of it as possible I've managed to get to a few meets in it, and it's nice when people recognise it now! Even people I've never spoken to before recognise it/me from here when they see it pootling round town I'm now back up in Leeds with it, but sadly it's running like a pile of poo My insurance runs out next weekend and I can't afford to renew, so I'll lay her up, and work on her over the winter. Which brings me onto my plans.................!! Hopefully, next year, the car will be ready to run in a roadgoing class for some sprint/hillclimb events!! (leaning towards sprinting because lack of torque might make hillclimbs a bit embarrassing!). Certainly not going to be anything competitive, it will all be for the fun! Other than general tidying, she will hopefully get a worked head, new dizzy with 'leccy ignition, reground Piper camshaft which should all go nicely with the weber carb and janspeed exhaust system I currently have fitted! Other plans include **those** wheels and some lowering. Eventually I hope to make the car look more like my avatar- A restocal styled imp I guess That's just plans for now though, for this next week I will just have to get out as much as possible and make the most of it! HAve been doing a lot of driving out towards Harrogate direction recently, looking for nice photo locations. I've just been pointing the car away from Leeds and seeing where I end up I can't begin to explain how much I just LOVE getting in the car and heading out to the countryside away from the hustle and bustle of the middle of Leeds and uni and everything. It's such a nice thing todo, I love it! Here's a couple I came up with (not the best photography sorry!) (Really wish I'd framed this one better, and knew how to set up the camera properly!!)
