Just destroy the hedge in the msit of the night and blame it on punk kids! And plans are already in motion to turn this wagon into something like this.... but with a different rear end! and green were its white! But getting the bumpers done chrome, J spec side lights and ae86 Zenki lip at the fron for added lowness and not to mention some sweet rims allround and not forgetting coilovers up front! . Plus the estates are leaf springs at the back so budget rear end lower ahoy!

Looks ace!!
As for the lowering I can see your problem.... what you've done is let yourself think about it!! I'm lowering the Polo in the next few weeks (90mm front 80mm back) and I may have clearance issues getting on and off the drive but I'm just refusing to think about or even acknowledge the problems ;D

Hurrah for Tetsujin! I’m sure Hirst won’t mind me congratulating you here on that fine purchase. Was it Twincammy who bought that Mazda 323 estate? Great to see stuff like this entering the R-R stable.
We all know that these early 80’s motors have hidden depths beyond their outwardly bland looks, but what would most people make of seeing this, Hirst’s Charmant, the 323 estate, RetroMat’s 323 hatch, my ex-DC Galant, any number of things from the collections of Ratdat, V8Mike, xbo11ox and others from here all parked up?! Awesome stuff, it makes me so pleased to be part of a place where people actually understand and appreciate these cars.

I know what you mean, I really want a Honda City Turbo! I just love any Japanese car that has looks like a radio! Esp older Toyotas, Infact, it gets to the point were older Toyotas become too curvy for me to like them more that late 70-80 cars! I'm gonna be taking my KE70 to the Retro Rides Show 07 and am gonna try an get a mate to drive the new estate too if I can!

I think the main thing to consider with 80s J-Tin is that changing the wheels and suspension alone can totally transform the looks. As they're usually obscure cars anyway, there isn't much need to change the styling as people aren't used to seeing them! Another point is that often they "bland up" the cars for the export market, e.g. different tail lamp arrangements, grilles, etc. That's why my first stop when considering a Japanese car is to get the chassis code and stick it into Google Image Search (plus a "jp") to see what they're doing over in Japan! It doesn't take much for this: To become this: I would also recommend the use of WOOD:

I don't wana ruin you thread too much but the plans are easy peassy! As I have an early 4 door KE as a spares car it has all nice things like no mirrors on the rood glass up front and chrome door handles, so these will be swapped over to give it a cleaner, freasher look. Also, I have got hold of a set of J spec side lights (ones with the indicator in the side light as apposed to on the wing). And also, paint the tops of the dooers and rear window surround black to make looke like one complete part. And then, get the bumpers chromed, give it a good, clean, and add some of my rims and a heffty drop, shouldse me through. Anyway, I have y brown KE to finish first anyway! And this is more what I have in mind dude.... no wood for me! although I do like it but its not to my taste as much as this....

I agree painting the window surrounds black, I think that's what makes it look a little awkward at the moment. Looking forward to it very much!

We should try to park the Charmant and KE70s together so comparisons can be made!

I saw a Charmant this morning in Sainsburys carpark! it was a bit scruffy, blue and silver two-tone job. I have taken a wibblepoo picture of it but the pic is trapped inside my phone.

That will be an LGX, the later luxury spec one which has the best seats ever: Unfortunately being a blue/silver one they won't be beige, but top spotting!! Wanted: those seats in beige. Reward: name it.

Good work!!
I'm too poor to afford a 20V, but a 16V is my hope for the future. Seems like there's a lot more Charmants floating around in Ireland than here but I bet it's still not many!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
