Hi Folks, Heres a thread about my beloved- a 1993 Celica 2.0 GT. Quite frankly I could go on for hours about this one, but I'll keep it as short and sweet as I can! Not really retro but here goes.... I've had it 4 over years now, bought with 85K on the clock, no service history, only modification was some horrible 16" momo alloys, and I paid £3250 for it. As you can tell from the pics there are a few tweaks on it now: Some work being done: Shiny suspension I built up: And a failed twin engine conversion attempt ;D: As i've had it a long time there are lots of mods, but I wont bore you with too many. The main of it is: Engine> K&N filter, decat, mongoose exhaust, piggyback ignition controller (currently with base map) Suspension & Wheels> Team dynamics lightweight alloys, eibach springs, koni adjustable inserts Body> Front splitters, partially stripped interior Recently it was rolling roaded (at the reputable Power Engineering, by the (now departed) main man himself Chris Todd) with 133,000 miles on the clock- and it put out 159 BHP @ 6480 rpm, and a nice flat line of torque with a peak of about 139 lb/ft. I'm really happy with that, it put out 154 when new ;D Plans? Well again I could go on forever..... but as with the micra i'll put stuff up on here when it happens ;D As with the micra, any comments / pee takes / suggestions welcome ;D Oh and a couple of questions for you chaps: A: is it retro? B: is it "chav" ?

Nice looking Celica Dan. Pretty good for it's age and mileage it has to be said.
I guess with me being another early 90's J-tin coupe owner i can't really comment on retro but i'm pretty sure it's not 'Chav'!
p.s - top pic looks best!

Feeling the love for all Celica's Is it retro? That's a state of mind. If you've lurked here a while and feel 'involved' then yes. Still plenty of Mk5 Celica's on the Krooze scene (no bad thing - each to their own) but will lead many to question it retro credentials. I think the problem with cars like the Mk5 Celica (that are knocking on 15 years old) is they still look quite modern - there hasn't been the complete shift in styling/engineering - this I guess is down to computers and bean counters finding the optimum solutions for aerodynamics, packaging, safety, easy of build/maintenance etc etc. From then on it just been honing the basic concept. So keep it subtle (as you have) and all will be good in world. (and in another 15 years you'll regret you ever got rid of it 'cause the Mk5 is so old skool) Cool, understated car - gets my vote. I'd lose the stickers though ;D

There's one of them running in Christchurch over here, has a 3S-GTE running in it, and does 11 second quarters with the aid of slicks (yes, it's FWD)..... these things are dime a dozen around here, mostly auto hairdresser mobiles though Good luck with it, and keep us posted on any mods!

celicaV8> cheers for the comments mate, as for them being popular "kroozin" machines I wouldnt know, really not my scene TBH! As far as subtlety (spell check) goes i cant even believe i fitted those front splitters, but i wanted my car to look different from the crowd, so that why they're there- and what makes me feel even better is the fact that most peeps who see them don't like them ;D not really a bodykit type person myself. The stickers are there for the same reason- I like racing cars too, so thats probarly added to the mix for that reason. I know the car doesnt perform like a racer, but the main reason behind building this car was for track days- most track days consist of hondas / 205's / etc and i've only ever seen one celica on track, a turbo GT4, so thought it would be different. Maybe one day i'll have the guts / cash / trust in the bloody brakes to have a crack on a track day ! Despite the above, I've never been totally happy with the look of the stickers, so they will probarly be coming off soon anyway! ;D Snoozin> an 11 sec FWD celica? Hats Off! ;D ;D i would never fit a GTE to my celi though, i'm a big N/A fan- one day I plan to beat a stock GT4 down the quarter mile- bet its a while till that happens ;D Will keep y'all posted- although it may be some time till funds are released for any more tweaks

ha ha cheers folks, but now i know removing the stickers will make me slower is putting me off ;D Current work on the celica- I've just added a headlamp retract mod to the headlamp motor circuit, and the dash panels are off to fit the "dash end" of a water temp gauge, I'm waiting n more parts (or more so "pay day") for the "business end" of the job. Will post a pic when in

bloody hell, I had to remove potatoes / dust / moss * off this thread to get it readable again * add any age related growth here I thought Id do a yearly update on the old celi, as a few folk showed interest. This year its in pretty much the same state, only differences I can think of is a new front strutbrace, all my gauges have been swapped for autometer pro-comps and I have a nardi steering wheel with quick release hub. Also radio removed with a 20psi low pressure warning light on a blanking panel. Oh and a couple of oil / filter changes, plus other general service items. Needed a few brake lines for the MOT and a sterring gaiter. It now has about 143,000 on the clock. I actually have had some great fun with this car this year- I had it down the quarter mile in april, and last month I entered a sprint at barkston heath, so it has seen the track properly for the first time too. Great fun I highly reccomend both! Oh, and the stickers are gone ;D Will dig out some pics if anyones interested
