Hello everyone, I've been skulking around the board for a little while just enjoying all the retro coolness but i've decided to sign up and get involved. I'm a massive car nut and i'm definitely of the opinion that older is better. Anyway, enough talking. I'm gonna show you my current set of wheels and i fully expect a few 'fiestasi' type responses but that's cool. I'm not here because of my car, i'm here because the rest of you have cool retro cars and maybe one day i will again too. Andy

Hi, Great work saying hello to us all. Don't be shy though lets see a few more pics and we'll see what the resident photoshoppers and image finders can do. ;D whats the deal with these? FWD, rear wheel steer? performance? I know next to nowt about these!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Thanks for the welcome folks! My car is a 4th gen Prelude. J import, BB4 chassis (or is it a BB1, can't remember) which basically means very few of the toys. No ABS, no 4WS, no LSD, no sunroof, no cruise, no airbags... but i do have power steering, electric windows, electric folding mirrors and climate control. I think the BB4(1) was meant to be the low(er) weight no nonsense Prelude. 197bhp FWD. VTEC kicks in at 5200rpm. And yes, the coolest dash ever! p.s My cats are called bodie and doyle! More pics :

Yeah got a fair bit to do actually. Rust on the rear arches is a major problem with 4g Preludes. Both my rear arches are starting to bubble quite badly so that's fairly urgent. Some little runt scratched my passenger door recently so that also needs doing. Other than that i need to replace the bonnet and have the front bumper resprayed following a minor bump at a roundabout earlier this year. So with all that which needs doing i'm tempted to go for a full respray in matt black at the same time and then finish it off with some matt black wheels.
What do you reckon ? Bit different and it could be quite original too.

What do you reckon ? Bit different and it could be quite original too. Satin colours are the way forwards. Black may be done to death but it is always a good look... Could think about other colours, satin blue looks good. Maybe some interesting wheel choice and a bit of lowering... give it a bit of a different look to the rest of what is out there.

That's a good point. I am right in thinking that satin black would look similar to matt black in that the paint would be flat but it would also have a bit of shine to it too rather than looking like a chalkboard!? If so then yeah, that's the look i'm after. It's already been lowered a bit so hopefully just some nice wheels to set it off would do the trick. That's some way in the future though, got to save the pennies first! *sigh*

Proper smart that fiesta of yours samyboy. Reminds me of my 1st car. An '86 957cc fiesta popular on pepperpots. It had more grip than power. Oh yes!

I'm not here because of my car, i'm here because the rest of you have cool retro cars and maybe one day i will again too. Excellent attitude. Welcome! Satin paint is definitely a winner. They have such a great shape, those Preludes, would be nice to see one with some retro inspiration. The satin blue suggestion is a great one, or the black, with some pinstriping maybe?

I'm really surprised to hear about rust on these - would have thought they had started galvanising etc by the mid 90s.
Oh well, welcome along it, would be easy to go drifter style with this one - may I suggest something a bit more leftfield. I reckon Octopus style could work well on the 'Lude!!

Cheers for the positive comments and suggestions folks. It's nice to have received a surprisingly warm welcome here. Gotta say this is an ace forum!
Please feel free to post some inspirational photos of your ideas for my car. I really like the idea of satin black with some pinstriping. I reckon that'd look amazing. Could a 90's j-tin coupe pull it off though ? Hmm...

That Nova actually looks alright, not exactly a hot rod but the look works ok.
st182, yeah i'm impressed with the road handling, it's very stable and flat through the corners. There is long standing argument about which is quicker round a track, a 2.2 VTEC Prelude or an Integra Type-R.... but let's not get into that one!
Plans for the car took a turn for the better, i may be getting a carbon bonnet soon. Should go well with the satin black.
Cheers
Andy

Nice and light too. I think it'd suit the car really well
