Ciao Retroisti.....
I guess I have to start off with an apology, Yes I know a 2000 Skoda Pick Up is NOT Retro and in it's stock shape & form it's no real heart shaker so I'm sorry for posting this.....
The Shop Hack was picked up early 2004, the car had been used by a carpenter and was in a quite sad state with 170.000km on the odo, it was quite worn inside & out but a smooth runner (I later found out that it had the complete motor changed under warranty at 100.000km), I drove it like this for one summer & winter (removed the rear cover to be able to haul bikes). In the spring of 2005 I decided to spruce it up since I really got to like it, I sanded it down and gave it a suede grey (rattlecan) paint (was palning a suede blue paint), found some 6x14" Golf Steelies (had a plan for Porsche Tele Dials) and fitted Bridgestone (a sponsor) 175-50-14" tires, cut down the stock springs to lower it and hated the way it drove, pulling a trailer was almost suicide and load up a bike in the bed and it was on the bump stops so the fall of 2005 a new set of (uncut) springs went back into it for the winter.....
This spring it was in bad need of a new paint job and I talked to Curtis at Six Pack Lowriders but he was booked solid untill June so I got out the trusty sander and once again went over it but this year I sealed of all bare metall with Hammerite before going over with suede grey (rattlecans again) paint. After alot of surfing Caddy/Skoda Forums I found info that Golf 4 rear springs was a 100% fit on the Skoda (and Caddy) only that they lower an extra 20mm so a 30mm lowering spring will lower 50mm so a set of of Cobra Felica 40mm (front) and a set of Cobra Golf 4 30mm (rear) was orderd. While waiting for the springs I had a major problem with what wheels to use and finally I diecided on a set of 6x15" Seat Ibiza TDI (4x100) steelies with Bridgestone Smart rears 175-55-15" and Moon Discs would look good, keep the same dia as the stock 175-70-13" tires and since the Smart tires are low rolling resitnance tires I got increased milage, not bad....
Just last week I got the time to drop it of at Hot Rods by Max for fitting of springs and front shocks, new shorter Opel Corsa shocks will be fitted to the rear soon. We decided to let it roll for while to see if the front settles a bit, if not we'll cut a piece of the spring since I want it just a tad lower up front. It now drives like dream both with and without load in the bed and pulling a trailer feels even better than with the stock setup. For Stockholm Cruising I fitted the Moon Discs and tidied it up a bit, on the inside there's crome window cranks, Mooneyes piston gear knob, Mooneyes logo and soon a Raid steering wheel and the oustide has been brightnd up a bit with Milotec chrome mirror and door pull covers, some chrome strips here and there and chrome rear plate holder just so it woun't be all flat & dull....
Now I really like to drive it, I get looks and thumbs up from people in Rods and on Harleys(!?!?!?), next step is to get a set of Air Ride for the rear but since it's Golf 4 springs I can easily find that in Germany (already maling som companies) for the front I don't need Air since It's NO show car but a Shop Hack that carries load alot....
Enough writing now some pix.....
DP says: NOT Retro but with a Retro flavour......
