Hey gang, I just discovered the site and i've spent hours pouring over the cool rides on here! I've had a fair few 'Retro' cars over the years but i've always wanted a 560SEC (a 500 or 420 just wouldn't do!) anyway I purchased my childhood dream of a car last week only for it to be written off by a woman in a Rover 4 days later! Heres a pic 'Before'

Hey Skyway, welcome to the forum! That looks a lovely motor..... is it still lovely or is it a complete write-off? Well done for getting your childhood dream-car! Not many people get to say they have done that

Hey Skyway, welcome to the forum! That looks a lovely motor..... is it still lovely or is it a complete write-off? Well done for getting your childhood dream-car! Not many people get to say they have done that Thanks! At the moment the future of the Benz hangs in the balance as they decide wether or not its beyond economical repair! If they write it off then I will try and buy it back from the salvage place and have it fixed myself! I knew things seemed too good to be true as its the first car that i've ever brought home that the Mrs didn't go spare about!

oooh this looks great. what engine is in a 560 then? best of luck with the repairs Thanks. The engine is a 5.5litre V8 with 300BHP on tap......It certainly doesn't feel that quick but you seem to woft along not realising how fast you are actually going! I spoke with the insurance company today and they seem to think that theres a slim chance that it wont get written off ;D Even better, they have to give me a 'like for like' loan car whilst its in the repair shop so it looks like I may be hoofing it around in a CLS55 for a couple of weeks

Wonderful car, skyway! ;D ;D What is the going rate for a 560 SEC, then? I'd better get my butt over to eBay and have a butcher's... Thanks! As for the prices? You will probably notice that they are all over the place on these cars! You can pick up a useable one for around £1000 but it will need a LOT of money spending on it at some point......Personally I wouldn't dream of buying one of these off Ebay! If you look through the classic car mags you will see them advertised for anything up to £20K Late models are the most sought after and subsequently fetch more than the earlier ones. Most good ones go for between £5k and £10K..........Mine was advertised in Mercedes Enthusiast magazine for £5900 (I didn't pay that for it though!!!) I was going to slam mine and put a set of 17" AMG Monoblocks on it, but its so straight (before the damage) and unmolested I decided to keep it standard (save for the German style plate!)
