Brief History................ My dad purchased VNO 448L brand new in 1972 for just under £1000. He owned it for 18mths before trading it in for a mk3 Tina. The car was never seen since until oneday I spotted an electric blue sport on ebay only 30 or so miles from my house, i called my dad to have a look wich confirmed it was the same one he onced owned! went to have a look at it the next day and it was in very good nick for the year. went home and put a bid in for the vehicle as i 'had to have it', i have always loved and wanted a mk1 escort since a young lad (23 now). Anywayz i did get the sport and it has never let me down garaged in an alarmed garage, cut off switch, crook lock etc for security. There was quite a lot of interest from the press about the story in aug 04. Had half a page in the Daily Express, Front page on the two local papers, and a few minuite feature on Anglia news. It had the superlites already fitted when bought in 04 along with the lowered suspension, so far have fitted NOS switches new carpet set, new exhaust, and some small bits of bodywork that has needed sorting. on the lookout for some rs2000 Recaros at mo (id be lucky!) Since buying the sport i havent seen one roadgoing sport on ebay probaly as they were made into rs2000/mexico replicas back in the day, and shells used for rallying.

Brilliant, I always wanted my dads old 1300 Sport back, RVH 23M. He sold it 1983 as an MOT failure and it was never put back on the road, I keep looking for it on the off chance its still sat somewhere but I doubt it..
Excellent looking MK1, good find!!

excellent! I'm sure you won't, cos it doubtless has lots of sentimental value, but if you put that on Ebay now I reckon you'd got over £17,000,000 for it!!!!
Hope you've got lots of security on it!!!! Looks freakin ace.

That is outstanding!
Good story too. Unlikely i'd ever have a story like that, unless i felt a sudden and compelling urge to own an FSO polonez or harvest gold Marina.

I recognise that car, seen it about, I used to live in Weeley so that car is kind of local to me. I used to have a 1300E, so I know how well those GT engines go. Great car, great colour

Davyboy - Wouldnt have been supprised if you have seen it around i got it from a bloke in Marks Tey near to where east coast salvage is, I believe its still on the origional lump according to my dad though mileage shows about 34000miles but must have gone round the clock as my dad done 30 odd thousand in the 18mths he owned, Most of the hard work had been done on it just small pieces here and there to tidy it up. which is ideal as its is my first classic. The seperate rev counter still works too! and still has the aerial my dad fitted on the nsr quarter
Most annoying thing is trying to drag my dad away from it!

Great story and great to see one that hasn't had all the usual treatment. What a minter. Like the others said, plenty security on there, and a propper agreed value with ya insurers is nessesary....

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Looks ace. But as people keep saying - keep it in the house/sleep in it/keep a small army of blood thirsty dogs in it. Seeing how they are all worth eleventy gasquillion pounds now.

My dad was one of the many people who turned his 1300 sport into a Mexico with a 1600GT engine etc. Nice to see a mint looking 1300 sport that wasn't converted!
