More chuffing welding !!!! I promised myself i was done with all the structural stuff on this car ages ago but after having a break then coming back to it i've noticed some of my previous bodge ups are not really up the standard i want for the car now. Back in the mists of time when i started all this i was just going to get the car through an mot then out it. Now its kind of taken over my life a little bit so my standards seem to go up with every job i do. Anyway, A little while back i made some repairs to the front crossmember. Nothing pretty, but good enough at the time. Having come back to it though i decieded it wasnt really up to scratch and needed to be re-done. This is the original repair i did. Also there was some holes around where the battery tray used to live and loads of surface rust too. So i got the grinder out on sunday and cut the whole lot out and started remaking the complete front end. I know all these panels can be bought for relativley peanuts but theres nothing quite like the feeling of making something from scratch ;D Now i'm ready to weld the front panel in and start making the new slam panel. I've got quite a gap to fill up above the grill but it should give it a nice custom look and there wont be another one about like it ;D It will be at the RR show. If i get lucky it might even be done for the retro show at the pod, but i'm not holding my breath

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Fantastic work there. What thickness steel are you using for the front sections around the rad?

Thanks dude. I made all the front panels out of 16gauge. Its a bit on the heavy side if anything, I could of easily got away with 20 but didnt have any bits long enough to do the slam panel and once i'd started using one thickness I like to carry on with it. At least its putting some strength back into it ;D

Been doing a lot of pottering about down the workshop lately but not really seeming to be making progress. I've done some of the niggley little jobs that i've been putting off for ages though so its a step in the right direction. Finally got around to repairing the front of the O/S sill and the corner of the floorpan. I'd had a suspision that the drivers floorpan might be a little thin in places for a while but i'd been trying to ignore it. The other day i couldnt resist poking it with the screwdriver of destruction though, and behold, there was a very small hole, which got bigger the more i poked it, untill i ended up with a repair this big. And a saucy shot from underneath Last week, or was it the week before? Its all a blur to tell the truth, I bare mettalled the engine bay and took off the heater bubble. Very rusty under there. I'm not doing anything with it yet though because if my volvo engine plan comes to fruition i'll probably have to cut the bulkhead out anyway. Finally, I've been trying to talk myself out of doing this for weeks but tonight i couldnt resist it any longer so i've started on one of the more subtle modifications. Can anyone guess what it is yet? ;D

I've been talking about it for weeks. And for even longer i've had an image of it in my head with suicide doors and a side opening bonnet. Its one of things, if i don't do it, i'll always regret it.
