Hi there guys,
This is the pride and joy of my automotive collection, my '62 Turquoise slammed Bug:
I bought the car two years ago for the princely sum of £3500. The car was a one owner from new in original, un-molested condition. It has a complete service history, including the original sales documents and service booklet. It's also still got its original 1200 engine! Here's how it looked in July '04:
Since I bought it, the car has gone through an evolutionary process. At first I had no intention of slamming it, so I focused my attention on period accessories. A few months after buying it I had amassed a few goodies including the roofrack, Aussie spec sunvisor and 5.60x15 Firestone Whitewall Tyres:
Then, after spending a little time with the Restowagen UK guys I set about transforming the car completely using the 'Resto-Cal' guidelines. The car now has a 3.5" narrowed and adjustable front axle beam, with CB dropped spindles, which has dropped the front end almost to the floor. The back is dropped by one inner spline on the torsion bars to match the front, although there is still a somewhat nose-down stance. I've also fitted EMPI 5 spoke alloys with 135xR15s at the front and 205/65R15s at the rear with Atlas whitewall inserts. I've also added a few more accessories including the Albert 'Swan-neck' mirrors, rear window blind, and ofcourse the Coke Cooler and suitcases on the roofrack.
I try to take it to as many shows as I can, both VW and general Classic car shows. The car can often be seen in the Restowagen UK 'line-up'. So far this year I've managed to win one trophy Lowest VW of Show at the Holton VW and Porsche show! My plans for the future are for a makeover in the Autumn, which might include a respray and an even narrower beam...watch this space!
Hope you like it!
Nick
