The History June 2006
Opel Commodore 1972 2.5 GS
A project I've been wanting to do for years but finding the right car at the right price has been a big hurdle ? good ones are hard to find and for some reason rough ones even harder and sellers often have a very inflated opinion of the cars value
Reposted in one thread to keep it all in one place and make sure I don't lose this thread!!!!
Thanks to Dave Evans for taking the time and trouble to go and view it for me as well as take some pictures 8)
It appears this one has been waiting for me (the tax disc is a big clue)
Taken off the road cos it needed new rings/pistons
Driven into a garage this is the first time in a while that it's seen daylight although this picture shows it's probably seen a fair bit in the past
Other random pics
Ticks most of the boxes (unfortunately it's a GS not a GS/E but on the other side of the coin it's a 4 spd stick shift rather than a slush box)
All the pics here (it's not for the faint hearted)

So some random pics of cars in far better condition to show you what they should look like
The project plan
I need to make a proper plan of what the heck I am gonna do with it....... The Monza project went horribly off track somewhere down the line and although I am very pleased with the end result it's not in line with the original plan (far from it!!!)
This one is a long way of being even started so plenty of time to mull over the options and decide what the end look should be......
But for the record at the moment it's pretty much decided that it will be along the following lines
- Convert to 24V (std tuning mods and in powdercoated black same as the Monza except colour coded spark plug cover plate and lettering highlighted same way)
- R25 gearbox for a 5th speed and no expensive bills for flywheels
- Get it sensibly low
- De-chrome it
- Black badges
- Black wheels (I have a choice of these  )
- Colour Yellow or Orange (I may even powder coat the shell if the rot isn't too bad as a quick and easy way of getting that bit done and dusted)
Please note I am not joking here as I reckon I can get the shell in the oven and provided I don't find any horrible rot in the shot blasting stage I can have it preped and painted in a weekend - it also works out much cheaper and whilst the finish may not be as good as wet paint it will be durable.
If the shell is horrible it wil be shot blast and hot zinc galvanised plus powder base coat to keep the rust at bay while I weld and repair as required - then it will probably get wet painted.......
- Fit GS/E 6 Dial Dash (gotta find one of these and I bet thats gonna be fun!!!
- Get the interior re-trimmed - I've got to see a man about that already so might see if I can get a group buy discount
And by way of inspiration if it even got close to the way these look I wouldn’t be unhappy

This thread is gonna sink for a while cos I can't start it till much later this year but it's here as a reminder and when I start I'll update it
