Had a busy weekend, replaced both front wings on the mk2 and attached the berg cup arches ontot he front. Refurbed the original wheels (the BBS's were merely temporary wheels) and got them back on. Result is one PHAT Polo! Getting quite hot recently too cos of the hot weather so cut larger holes in the front valance for the radiator, and resprayed all the front end again. In an hour or so, we are going back up to the garage to do start on the berg cup rears and sit the rear end closer to mother nature, and prep the body for a full blow over tomorrow. We are doing the respray all on our own so its a pretty good effort i think! :-D Unfortunately, went out to boston today to get some laquer from vrs and got caught in road works doing resurfacing (that we were unaware of), the whole front end got trashed from loose stone chippings, and we were going at just 10mph! Got tarred up stones all over the shop and caught in the brakes too, had to get to a garage as quick as possible to get the wheels off and the the brakes freed up! Think we pulled out about a ton of grit/stones from the arches and in the wheels. At least we know to avoid the whole area from now on for a while and it can all get resprayed again anyway tomorrow. :tear: :-D Cheers Paul and Jibber Before... Painting up the arch. curse word pic, but a newly painted up RG11. Intercooler and radiator apperatures.

You can get the kit from kwl motorsport, sorg motorsport, wl-motorsport etc etc.
And as for the front spolier i did think about that, but it wouldnt be a very practical road car in all fairness so I'm settle for the archs on front and rear.

I have to say, that looks pretty ace. I keep on seeing this mint G plated Polo coupe driven at low speeds by an old guy, and I keep on getting rude thoughts about it.

On a slightly offtopic note... does the bloke at WL Motorsport speak englais ? I mailed him a while back and he never replied. I think I'm definately going for a set of their arches on my mk1. Front spoiler would only be as deep as the bottoms of the arches, wouldnt affect ground clearance much i wouldnt have thought.

Ste - the emails i sent to WL were in German - i translated them using Babelfish. I'll be waiting till its bodywork time till i decide whether or not i wanna go BIG arches and a spoiler. Head says 'no, make it look subtle', heart says 'Fcuk it, go mad'

Dan, If the guys at WL don't speak English then let me know and I'll give you a hand with Ze German. Babelfish is only good for one thing and that aint translations...

No plans for any more body work to be added at present, think we've got the look just right personally.
I want to do the berg cup front valance on my mk3 racer as I'm doing alot of aerodynamic mods to her but would be a headache to fit i think.
Tonights progress, well it went kinda backwards. Note to self, don't be clever and try and laquer the car yourself! Its too easy to fook up and errmmm it kinda did. but hey at least we gave it a go ourselves.
The laquer was a nightmare to do. Got the jade green paint on the car fairly well, some better prep work beforehand would have made it alot smoother and easy to go on. Finally got it to a good enough standard and after running out of paint, lol, stopped and prepared for the single pack laquer to be applied. Some differign opinions on how to mix it, the guys in VRS, the paint suppliers, mentioned 'ready to use' but other people said we gotta mix it with thinners. So, unsure we went with adding some thinners. This is where it went tits up, the paint gun started playing up and spraying oddly even though the compressor was fine, as though it was blocking up. This happened halfway through the doing the drivers door and rear quarter, it was applying fairly well this all of a sudden would fire a curse word load out that ran straight away but also took the paint with it. DOH!!! We decided to then put the laquer in neat into the paint gun, this applied better and a hell of alot thicker and smoother to get the glass finish we were after... in some places... but the paint gun was still fooking up and either spitting out, curse word out or dripping out laquer whenever you came off the trigger. It also wasn't spraying very well, starting off nice then reducing its volume coming out so the spraying couldn't be done in a constant line. Its not that bad, the bonnet is the main thing that doesn't look right
But hey ho, will book it in with the RAF paint shop in a few months time to get a proper job done, maybe in a different colour The lesson...get a professional sprayer to do it I now realise why resprays cost so much!!!
Going to no-rice tonight and inters on saturday on dubforce stand so you can see how she came out.
Thanks for all the comments, its been a hell of a long few days and nights with 1/2am finishes! But got it done for inters.

Hey,don't mean to teach you to suck eggs but i had to learn loads when painting, and i use single stage. I found that using a smaller nozzle gun (1.2mm) and running a 75% overlap of passes at a lower pressure (i use around 20psi for clear) helped things. Again, silly things, but did you strip and clean the gun after every use? I don'\t mean just spraying through with gun wash. All helps in the end. Keep it coming
