Bought this last week, been changing my cars lately like theres no tommorow... was looking for an as-tidy, low mileage warm/hot hatch as poss. for under a grand. Was about to look at a 205 gti, but then saw this and kinda fell for it... 1990, 1721cc, 5 speed manual, 3 door, 63,000 miles, mot n tax.. Everything bar a plastic cover over the rear bumper is present and correct. Runs good, just needs a service, brakes and bearings sorting. Plans for now are low low suspension and a set of ronal r10's.. ta.

wow! that is super cool! A few years ago that would have made the perfect car for someone's super-chic, little-black-dress-wearing, Paris-dwelling mistress. Quality!!!
Great find man!

Excellent random purchase! Just the sort of car you'd never find if (for some reason) you really wanted one, yet now you've bought makes perfect sense.

I was told that these big lump 5s are actually a better drive and just as quick "in the real world" of day to day driving than the GT Turbo. Why buy a new car when you can pick up minters like this for silly money.............

cool, loving the replies.. thanks Ive had nothing but vuaxhalls since passing my test 6 years ago so it is a little odd to have got this, but i am enjoying it. Yeah thanks to the torsion bar rear I'm not fretting over lowering it - it'll go down a treat.. also thanks to the normalish 37/38mm offset and 4 x100 pcd; wheels are going to be a piece of cake to sort also.. - plenty of choice.. The only problems I'm encountering are with engine upgrades, no off the shelf exhaust (not a big prob, obviusly powerflow can sort me there) no off-the shelf cam kits, nor most disapointingly and inlet manifolds for some twin 40 webers, which i still have from my vaux days.. anyone know any gen with upping the anti- a little with these 1721cc ohc lumps? Aren't they volvo 340/440/480 sourced/derreved?

Quality choice! Love Mk2 Renner 5's, had 2 myself, though not as cool as this one i must admit. /\ Last one.. I think you're right on the engine thing tho. It'll look mint when you've dropped it. What do ronal r10's look like? EDIT: I've found them now... derr...

Love it! Want it! Yeah I believe the engines are volvo derived. Think volvo turbo motor is the obvious choice . Always wanted a R5 slammed over series 1 clio 16v rims. Will look cool when its done

I had a 'stock' Ren 5 1.7 GTX, and it would eat standard 1.4GTT's all day, they are deceptively quick, and mine was lowered too and handled like a kart!

it might just be me but does the front need to come down a bit further seems a bit higher than the back Yes - agreed. The fronts are GMax springs for a 1.7 GTX, supposed to be 50-55mm drop. But it only came down 30mm odd. I was next going to try R5 GT Turbo -50mm Apex springs, that should sort it, but its due mot and tax and there are other ickle bits that need doing. Thanks
