Finally worked out how to post pics, So here is the pics of my brothers skyline which people have been asking for, it has what we believe to be an aftermarket targa roof, never seen any others as you can see the car is currrently a mess, following the removal of the vinyl roof, and preparation for a respray, Just bought the enkei wheels in the bottom pic for £120 off egay they're 7x15, et0 which is perfect, should look nice with black centers, will post more pics as it progresses hope all the pics work

The colour is not original anyway, but no its going to be changed, I think he still wants it blue but a bit lighter, possibly black where it currently is silver, He sais he doesnt want to lower it but a bit of quick photoshopping by me should put an end to that,

Looks an interesting project! It's a new one to me, the reg'n isn't familiar.
Wonder why someone changed to early lights on a late model one? Good to see they've peeled off the Datsun badge to reveal the 'Skyline' name hidden underneath.
The rear arches look a bit non-standard, usually there is no flare at all here. Still, may give a little more room for those nice wheels. If you want to go back to original apparently MGB inner and outer arches are very similar, and rather more obtainable. Also try Cortina sills, though some say they're not too easy a swap.
I wonder what that targa top will do to strength of the car given that it's already pillarless? Is it watertight? Mine isn't, and it doesn't even have vinyl roof or sunroof.
Hope you'll be moving that fog-lamp. Is it legit to move it to one or both of the brake lights if you convert outer unit to tail and brake? Fortunately mine is just old enough that it never had one and doesn't need it for the MoT.
You get a different dash in your's, but I think mechanically they're pretty much unchanged.

The arches are off a cavalier and it is on the list of things to get sorted (should be a blister not a flare) The reg used to be GCY 1W but my brother sold it for £650 after paying £600 for the car (about 5 years ago now), Thanks for the bodyworkl tips, I will look into it, As for the rigidity of the car with the targa roof, well, um, yes, its not realy, I think its something else which needs adressing with maybe a couple of strips of box section, as the doors need a bit of a slam to shut them because the top edge of the doors are tight due to chassis flex. Yes it does get wet inside particularly as the seals for the roof pannel are knackered, need to find a suitable replacement. Probably make the foglight removable so it can be reatached for the MOT.
Did you get my message spottedlaurel, about the parts?

great project! does anyone know if these were sold here? by that i mean were they all imports? its just i notice yours has a rear wash/wipe.its usually a give away on more modern "greys". 2002Tii, got your message and have replied with my home number. Dazmax, yes these were official imports. Don't know why they had the rear wiper but they're handy on a damp morning or when car is stationary in rain (it clears OK when on the move). Datsun sold some 2500 of them from 1979-81, mostly early car like mine with round headlights plus about 300 facelift ones like above. Came only in well equipped guise with injected 2.4 straight-six and either 5-speed or auto. IRS rear end, PAS, pillarless EW, but no AC here. Big Datsuns never sold that well (bit like big Hyundais etc nowadays?) and increasingly luxurious 280ZX probably stole some sales too. They're a nice cruiser, best on fast, open roads. Driven mine to Norway a couple of times, ideal two-up as a bit cramped in the back and boot small. By time of facelift model even Datsun seemed to have lost faith in them, they don't appear to have done a specific brochure for them. Newer RB-series straight-six from R32 onwards Skylines would be a great upgrade, even if only non-turbo 2.0 or 2.5.

Wow thats cool!!! I’ve never heard of an aftermarket targa roof before. Has it got any sort of headlining? Be interesting to see if whoever did it made any effort to replace the strength lost when they chopped out the roof rails.
Excellent work!

It is a great cruiser, I drove it back from Cambridge to Gloucester once, its so soft and walowy its like driving a boat, comfy though, my brother drove it to Viena and back a few years back.
The back seat is huge and totaly flat, my brother put some frilly scatter cusions in there for a joke as its so much like a sofa.
The roof pannels are quite strong along the edges (where the roof rail was) and they clip in whith some substantial levers, so its not quite as "flopy" with them in, the original headlining has been cut and refitted around the openings for the targa roof.

Forgot to mention, with the roof pannels off and the frameless windows down, you can jump in and out of the car Dukes of Hazard style!
