Man alive! Are you lot trying to get me into trouble or something? ;D I've been doing some engine pondering of late....after all my iS has done an interstellar mileage and has never been rebuilt. It still flies like a good 'un when warm / wound up, but "town performance" i.e when you want a bit of low-down dirrty torque seems to be lacking a little. Now there's nothing to suggest that the engine's proper knackered (oil-burning, smoking etc. ) although it does have the noisy tappets typical of just about every old Beemer. Sometime, the inevitable will happen and it will give up the ghost (place bets on whether that will happen up the strip at RCS ;D). So I have been contemplating the options..... (a) Have a proper full rebuild - preferably with some choice tweeks along the way - this is gonna cost serious money though I'd think!  (b) Get a low-ish mileage replacement engine (from an e30 or early e36 iS), bung it in and hope for the best...I may be able to do this quite quickly in a DIY environment so cost = negligible. Good propensity I'll curse word it up though or the new engine will be just as fooked! (c) Allow you lot to talk me into doing soemthing really daft like this M5 conversion!!!!! ;D In a forum environment it sounds a piece of curse word - reckon it would actually be a pretty major operation what with all the loom splicing and what not I'm sure would be neccessary. Also a 3.5 would drink like a fish and may upset the lovely balance of the car's handling.... Oh what to do...  |

get an e36 m3 evo engine and stop worrying about anything ever... or if your really sensible get your hands on s14 engine

Hmmm. I have it on VERY good authority that the s14 won't go into a rhd car without one hella lot of surgery due to the exhaust conflicting with steering....  And an e36 evo engine? Well then we're right back into that realm of (a) massive cost (b) massive hassle and (c) making the car too nose-heavy and uneconomical. |
