My other ride is this 57 Chevy. I bought it as an import to Aus in 1995ish, after it sat in a field in Washington state for 20 years. I converted it to RHD from LHD with most firewall work done by a friend (my welding skills hover around the zero mark) and mechanical side done by myself. I did all mechanical work on it (motor rebuild, all suspension, radiator rebuild etc) myself except rebuild the auto. It was stripped, prepped & painted in a single day for a total cost of $350. Paint was laid on by a friend. Far from finished, but on the road, and fun to boot around when I get back to Aus occasionally.

I absolutely love that, is it satin blue? How can you bear to leave it in Australia? Why is it not mine? How many more questions.

Holy cow! Now thats not something you see very often. Only on this forum would you see that jostling for space with a Lada 1200 and a 5.0 V8 Merc 190. Bloody brilliant.
Is it true that LHD cars are not allowed to be used on the road in Aus?

Paint is blue suede. Motor is a 283 V8, an original 1957 block with no side mounts, although its not original to the car, which was originally a 6.
LHD cars are now permitted in most states of Australia for full registration, but only for cars 30 years or older. When I converted the rules did not allow for full registration, only club permit. I prefer driving on the right (correct!) hand side (of the car that is, not the road) any way, and certainly don't regret that I converted it, even though the rules changed afterwards.
I have scads of pics of before & during, unfortunately all film format, and in Aus so nothing I can post here unfortunately.

Really sweet! Agree with Rmad re striping or something A mate over here has a red 57 4 door delivery thing (its a really unusual body type like a normal wagon but with the rear windows filled) that's now all gasser style and has a big block. Before it went that silly though he helped us move a washing machine in it - plenty of room in the back of those things

I'm having problems with the pics ath the moment, but going by the comments above it is one sweet ride. If it is located anywhere near Melbourne, I can pop around and take it for a spin for you. Just to clear the cobwebs of course. I'm always prepared to put in for the team The only good thing about LHD cars is the kids get to order at the drive throughs!
