Here's my project so far... Basically she's got the engine out of a 1990 Mercedes 500se (5.0 V8, 265bhp) squeezed into her engine bay. The current job is to make my exhaust manifolds, then it'll be moving on to sorting the wiring out. I'm figuring another couple of months of hard graft and she'll be burbling into life. I decided to do it after reasoning that the exisiting 2.6 lump just wasn't big enough! hehe I'm hoping to keep her looking fairly stock, but certainly with wider rear wheels for some much needed extra grip. I might even get a diesel badge for the back, just to confuse people Probably not quite right for this forum, but I also run a 1985 Suzuki GSXR7/11 (750 frame, 1100 engine) streetfighter bike and a variety of other 'more normal' bikes and cars!

This thing looks sweet, i bet it took you and maybe a friend a fair amount of time to get that sitting in there like that. I bet one day you'd like to repay the favour and maybe help mount the engine in say his Imp if he had one...

Impman, I've heard many stories of your 'creation' - fair play for putting a V8 in an Imp. Gimpy, what are we gonna do with the afternoon if that's all we're doing on that day? Don't you need to buy some carbs first though....?

I see what you did there...
Yep, but you know my philosophy on actually buying parts. They either need to be so broken i cant weld them or just fall into my lap from my 'good friends' hint hint... and before you start i know you gave me the engine, oh and the loom, the CDI etc...

I've seen a variety of power outputs given on websites, the highest one I read was 265, so I went with that one ;-) lol In fact, just checked my owners manual for the 420 (also has the 500 engine info in it), and it quotes 195KW at 5200rpm, which translates to 261.9bhp - same as for the SEC And 405NM torque (298.7ft/lbs) at 4000rpm Hopefully it will produce even more than that with the manifolds I'm making, and removing a fair few of the silencers...! Time will tell what have you done to get 265 hp? my sec only has 240.

I think the manifolds from a 450slc will work with your engine in that car without clearance issues. HTH
