Heres The old girl/thing! Its gonna be a while till I do much with 'the ship wreck' but here it is for the RR thread. Fast update. when I got it it was not running, brakes were seized and the interior was soggy and mouldy, also the electrics were a bit grumpy. Now thanks to my dads advice its running fine Progress is slow cos I got the Sapph and the Sierra to work/spend on. its not in that bad nick but the rust needs fully checking out. Honestly cant wait to work on customising it. It wil probably be just ratted for it first drive though. fur glorious fur!

Absolutely. I'm gonna film it being cleaned (probably) when it moves from the ol mans and wash it, I've removed some offending leaves. i do kinda like the ship wreck look now.
I'm seriously tempted to try MOT it for the laugh and if it can be done. take the badboy to CARS, that'd be fun, infact i like this idea, a lot!

After hitting with the bucket and sponge - and Cif it got a bit better cleaned out interior too Sourced some new free seats to swap for my neglected mouldy leathers. yay. started on front wing, oh my god faund all this compost! threw that on the garden, bit of rust on outer thin layer on inner wing floor pan corner, sorted that, junked wing for recycling leccy windows were playing up, cable fell of a pulley so after much ead scratching, annoyance and neat chopped finger/arms, I bent the pulley back and sorted that! still expect it to fall off! bump and grind! chop and weld other side, micra repair panel! old wing, reall didn't seem worth bodging it back together. Flying without WingThis was meant to be a store in garage and rebuild into custom car, but engine seemed too keen to get out there so build up began. Insured on it now just waiting to see if it gets an MOT next. I hope it passes this thing owes me some money and time now, really wanna show up at CaRS in it now...

Much respect for tackling that one. I have seen a lot of MR2`s scrapped for a lot less. They seem to have got to that age/value were people class them as disposable fun until the mot runs out. Excellent car, with my favourite all time engine in.

Wow that's a sad AW11 you've scored yourself there, however persevere with it and you'll have a wicked B-road thrasher! Great fun little cars with a great powerplant. They're slowly beginning to earn themselves cult classic status, especially over here where (sorry to say this) they're cheap, plentiful and usually in decent condition, there's even a fair few of the 4AGZE versions floating about (supercharged). Look forward to following this one

Thanks, basically The MR2 it found its way on the very top of my list as i yearned for another small interesting car i could blast local roads in. I couldn't afford to buy one, then this came up free! £150 in transport costs it was back home! generally its not that bad specially now. reality of all this rust fixing has temporarily stopped me wanting to try turn it into a custom show car, but the plan is still an everyday custom local road screemer. Other plans were to strip out the weight for a bit of track use, however i'm liking the toys so we'll see about that in the future! Final stages tonight, if it fails MOT, i'll be gutted...

Thanks, I cheated a bit it looks shinier cos of the water still on it, Cif works a treat, respray in the future. Yeah unless MOTer calls my dad up with cancellation i'm stuffed. got more chance of it passing with this garage, plus i'm 40 miles away again now.

As some know the '2 got an MOT! hooray! I handed over a thank you card to my dad yesterday with some papery gifts for his help! bless him he enjoyed helping after all! Handed another 96 quid over for 6 months fun on the roads. Now i am absolutely broke and need to sell something! perhaps my body cos i love the fleet too much! Clutch is a bit knackered and slips, but i got used to it now, job for later. window is knackerd again, bloody thing. its not 'finished' yet! So a nevous blast down the m60 home and it was great, mucho fun. bit crampt on my super long legs! so new wheel and buckets next mods then... Knocked up a basic vid today, its nowt special, just sme shots befor work really started and local driving, its slow! not much external stuff as my sunday camera person (Ms R) was hung over from celebrating her birthday tomorrow and i didn't want her to get freeking mugged! LOL another RR/RF vid contribution, So here go- enjoy

Update. I did buy some lovely OZ wheels brand spangly with nice thick spokes, cos those above don't work IMO. No tyres tho so I just get to look at em in the house! I'd love to be getting creative with this but for a number of reasons no time or money to go there. However, its all about maintenance, which is annoying but its all the niggly knackered stuff that needed doing, true MR2 jobs, all the stuff thats gone wrong regularly comes up on the forum with others. After the steering wheel boss incident where a cheapo crappy boss (making the horn not work or work auomatically) also coinsided with a knackered alternator, I bought a kwalatea MOMO boss, woo! got on the Sapph reinstated again so got a lift to collect it so we could check out JAE. looked great but was far from perfect. check the size, I have got used to it now, Sapph feels like a bus again. alternator causing a fuss! sully meanwhile protects window winding too far - new door waiting to go on to fix some of these issues, even if it is red. alternator fitted, bought off net, will try remember the supplier if anyone needs to know. Working again, got jiggy on the snake-pass. Muchos fun. Fitted some halfrauds thatcham steering lock for security, hope it works. Sapph out of MOT so the '2 got to be the daily for a while. got the train home after laying up the sapph off road. So I was a little disappointed when the rad sprung a leak on the M62 up hill! luckily I was near the top so I coasted home with a mucky bonnet and drippings, avoiding the car over heating, amazing how far you can coast with no power! Manged about 3-4 mile! both laid up, train home After a work night out I took my bag o tools on the last train and went to tackle that pesky rotted rad. few snapped bolts but came out easy enough. lots of rotted bits specially the rad and bumper Rot look inspected with safety boot no wonder it bust! ;D Sorted those bolts with industrial drill, thanks dale-lad. Getting dark, got rad back in, getting despirate now, sent GF to get coolant, came back with 1L, sent back to tescos came back with 5x1L's they didnt have big ones final trip to asdaz and bought some more bigger bottles, so we have a yorksire-mixture of different brands now in there, hope its ok! Comma, Comma, Tesco, and Asda! no time for testing back to Madchester! Todays inspection with non safety boots looks ok but it needs to come out in a couple months to tidy metal work up propperly. Then its either keep-tidy, or sell....

I would say in a couple of months you shouldn't sell it. I think they're cracking little cars and you've bought just at the right time. Hmmm if it wasn't for the rampant rot I would get one.
Maybe in a couple of years time.(when I can weld lol)

Quick update, more running report than new mods really. Good few months without the Sapph in action, The MR2 has painstakingly been my only daily, which has been interesting with an house move and loads of wet weather - trademark leaks! interesting but its been a superstar over 2000 miles with minimal fuss. Cant wait to recommission the Sapph so I can finish a few jobs. Plan is then to sell one as I have lost a parking space and several quids, so this and/or the sapph will be for sale. We'll see what happens, I have Rims, a new door and contemplating some DIY painting and serious greasy maintenance over the winter. Brrrr! Quick clean reveals some new scrapes, I'm dieing to fully reanimate this thing, if only there was a Joncedric-North services! In the meantime I might email the nice chap who donated the car...
