Hi all, I'm new here. I joined after looking at some of the other rides, and I couldn't resist it.
As the title says I have a 1990 8v mk2 golf gti, tornado red.
It's completely standard at the moment, only had it since Dec, it's my 1st gti but my 2nd mark 2.
Only done a few things to it so far, thought I'd have it a while and decide later on. But it came with a fair few leaks and some electrical gremlins. That was obviously the first thing to do, so we stripped the whole interior out and sorted everything at once properly.
Since then I've only needed to do minor jobs to it, but the suspension, brakes and clutch all need replacing. So today I've been to order most the parts. Just sticking to a pretty much standard setup for now.
I've gone for standard shocks, but G60 rear shocks and top mounts to lower it a wee bit. Also little touches like urethane arb bushes and braided brake hoses. My plan is then to get a heavy duty clutch kit ready for further modifications.
I don't want to take the car too far away from standard as it's fun to drive anyway, I think at most I will get a tubular exhaust mani and a 270 degree cam and have it all tuned.
The wheels are mim 1400's I think, 2" dish on them, they were painted a grey colour by a previous owner, my plan is to refurbish them. I'm not sure what to do though. I have 3 options.
1. Polished
2. Polished dish, black centres
3. All white
Any suggestions? I think the black centres is currently being done to death in the vw scene which puts me off, the cleaning effort also puts me off the polished finish. I think the white wheels will look good on the car though.
Here's a few photos of it, and my old one is in some of them. I'm selling the wheels off the blue one if anyone is interested by the way.
I tried to be arty for this one, didn't really work
And the car to the left is my dad's 16v, he also has an 8v gti. My mum has a 1990 bmw 320i convertible, my bro has a mk2 golf driver that he's always working on too, the neighbours definitely hate us.
