Thought it was time I share some pictures of my retro ride as I've given it a quick clean today. I need to have a look at the wings before long, both are starting to go down by the sills. Other than that it's pretty tidy. It's gradually working it's way towards being some sort of a road rally car, bucket seats are coming on Monday, then I need to organise new dampers, probably KYBs, then a sump guard as I'm collecting huge clods of earth on my front cross member at the moment, uncomfortabley close to the steering rack.

Looks good mate, got any more pics? I'm sure there will be many cries of "hit it with the stick" but i think its just right if you're going for a "road/Rally" look. Could i suggest some huge mudflaps?

It's not going any lower, it already grounds out on white roads so I'm just aiming to stiffen it up for the moment. Mud flaps could be a good idea, not sure how to mount them though. I've only got a few more picture, one as it was when I bought it, and one before it was washed. We took the interesting route back from the pub .

Ah, not a million miles away - I'm up in West End Those wheels are perfect, remind me of old MK2 Cav wheels

Ive owned 2 Chevettes, one a 76 model which after countless engine changes/rebuilds eventually rusted into the ground and one a 1980 "E" model which was imaculate but totally gutless. Is it true that the early series Beemer 3 series wheels are a straight fit to the Chevette hubs?

looks great. it could look really good slammed, but that would be completely against what you want the car for. have you seen racer's old chevette? huge amounts of inspiration there

Thats a serious machine you,ve got there!! I'm seriously impressed that you made the decision to tune the standard lump rather than go down the transplant route. Was the choice down to regulations or down to the fact that another lump would have been heavier and what you gained in performance you would have lost in the handling? Or then again, did you do it just for the hell of it?

racer86, your chevette was awesome, can't believe you sold it. It's a shame I didn't have that sort of cash at the time as it's when I bought mine. How did you find the suspension setup on yours without the ARB and with stiff springs? Still soft enough for white roads etc? I'm worried that when the KYBs go on I might get a bit much under steer.

Rob - I chose to tune the stock lump as it ws the easy option and being 21 insurance is always a problem. i recon it was faster in that tune than with a stock manta lump and 5 speed + the weight would have killed its lively handling.
Burns - the handling was awsome, no understeer at all ever (ditch your anti roll bar and ditch it now!) in the dry it would grip and grip and grip and then just break into oversteer really gently - that was down to the turrets aswell, chevettes tend to snap oversteer without them - best mod i did! In the wet it was fairly oversteery but really controllable. I was so pleased with the set up as everyone told me it would be too stiff. With the turrnents and gaining back the independance of the front suspension it tracked and rode the bumps sweet and because it was so stiff it still didnt roll.
