Right, here it is in all of its Korean glory. Much better than i thourght it'd be, nice and shiny and not to bashed about at all. One owner since new, 57,000 miles since birth deep in the Korean jungles. Runs fine (if underpowered) and odd in every way. Odd sitting in the luxury of the cabin with all 80s mod cons listening to the 1960s Mitsu lump scream/smoke away to itself as you rock about on the mk5 cortina running gear (which was in turn mk3 wasnt it?) Anywho, makes a change from the pov spec Orion LX (now gone) and Imp. Need to fix one or two things, creaking passener door, boot and passenger side rear centeral locking, drivers leccy window and squeeling alernator then on to the fun stuff. Autofive has pointed me in the direction of some mk5 Tina lowering springs, then i'll get rid of the skinny rubber and put it on some revolutions or watanabes or something. Then possibly in the near future dump the strangled 1600 lump in favour for a Tina/Granny lump which all fit straight in. 2.9 essex, 2.3 cologne etc anyone? Hoovered it out the other day, even the carpets are mint Flowery cut out carpet mats as standard in old fogies cars Empty wet carpark + rwd = fun! and realisation i need new rubber

This is a superb car. Just the sort of thing that gives me a full-on 'trouser marquee'. So good to see folk cherishing cars like these, this is what I like about this site. Great work GJM, I salute you.
don't put a shitey old pinto or essex boat anchor in there, that would ruin it. Surely you could get a more modern Mitsubishi lump? Like Mr Sigmas Starion turbo effort. That would be a clear-cut case of keepin' it real yo. What a kick-ass grandad wagon!

Quality car ;D I always quite liked these without realising they had cortina bits on them. Just to check, the back axle is cortina with a panhard rod, but what does the front have it looks like its a mcpherson strut. I agree with bo11ox a newer mitsubishi engine would be nice possibly a 1.8 GDi they are pretty quick and give over 40mpg which is damn good for a decent size petrol. There are plenty of accident damaged charisma`s with these in and they sell for peanuts. Nobody makes pattern parts, so panels are mitsubishi only and they get written off for silly things like bumpers or bonnets. Failing that bung a pinto in ;D

Great buy GJM! Adds nicely to the diversity of the RR fleet, and sums up what's so great about this place and the people on it. Most car people would dismiss the Stellar, but it's RWD and has easily upgradable bits on it.
Everything has potential.......

Fantastic, almost museum quality there. I didn't realise the tech was so old on em, whatever though tricked out with a Cossie or Mitsi lump could embarrass a few. Good work.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Hang on a minute, this picture: There's something not right. Those Cortina springs won't work on the front. That cars got Mcphearson struts! So I guess it's just the rear suspension and axle that came from the Cortina then?

Yeah ya right, been doing some more research and the Mk1 Stellar used all round mk5 Cortina suspension and axels, the Mk2 only used Cortina rear axel and suspension with Mitsubishi front and Mitsu brakes. At the moment its just my daily smoker, been to busy to do anything with it lately. Had a lot of people on Hyundai forums telling me to keep it standard as it a 'rare piece of Hyundai history' Might try to get it to a few local shows this summer to guage peoples interest in this oddity.

are there any 'external differences' between a Mk1 and Mk2? when is the changeover year?

Originaly styled by Ital. Mk2 came in 87' with front Mcphersons. No structural differences other than the front running gear, just cosmetic differences, headlights, bumpers, grill, interior.

I love your choice of car. Its so refreshing to see people go for something different and not be afraid to do so. This is part of the reason why i like this site, no same old cars and same old mods, people are prepared to go out on a limb to create something different. I would imagine a eurobox in the same sort of condition would have cost you an awful lot more, yet it wouldnt be half as much fun would it! Top car mate!
