Hi there!! Newbie, Although been reading this board for some time. After seeing AsconaDaz's red S1 MK1 GTI, thought I'd post some pic's up of mine. (We're takin over!!) Like AsconaDaz's red one, this is a 4 speed 1.6 and is stock apart from the Steal bumpers (Which should be plastic) and the stereo. Will post some pic's up of the interior and engine once I've took some.

I've seen this on a couple of other forums and absolutely love it. It just goes to show how spot on VW were when they designed the GTI.
It seems like 79 Golf's are the thing of the moment on here! ;D

Just awesome, Mk1 GTI's surely don't get much better than this? Don't suppose you fancy a swap for a swallowtail '75?

That is beautiful. Steel wheels are defo the way to go :-)
Are those mirrors correct? My GTI has the plastic type but I'm sure they should be the metal type that you have on yours.

Hi there asconadaz. Yeah the mirrors are the correct sort and they are actually plastic like yours. The early chrome flag mirrors were on some 'base' models upto 78 (I think)

No worries, there are very few cars I'd part with my Mk1 for to be honest as well, I've just always hankered after an early GTI... will probably end up keeping it and getting a GTI as well at some point. It's an addiction! ;D

Your right about the addiction thing. Some people collect stamps or Train numbers?? I'd love a nice little collection mk1's if I could afford it!!! Look after the Swallowtail, Not many left now.
Just out of interest, what did you pay for it??

Just out of interest, what did you pay for it?? A reasonable price considering the condition, no tax or MOT, wasn't running etc, certainly more than you would generally pay for a 30 year old automatic hatchback! I'm not saying exactly!

Fair do's.
I've got a mk1 valuation list somewhere, which gives a rough guide on current values. I know swallowtails fetch quite a premium. I can try and see if I can find it.

That looks great, like the metal bumpers, they're perfect! Have you ever considering putting some euro look rims on it like ATS cups? would look even better! Or maybe not! Sticking with the steelies on this one, Although I've got a set of original 'optional' alloy's in the garage that I may put on at some stage.
