Those scimmie steels look excellent. I actually prefer them to the alloys despite their hens teeth factor. Scimitar rims wouldn't fit...those are Weller Motorsport rims, picked up very near to my house from a guy that had some great stuff tucked away! They look awesome, by the way.

I must have got the wrong end of the stick about where they came from. I was having some problems keeping it together this morning.

Like them alot! Saves the Dunlops getting eaten by the salt too! As we're being pedantic on the wheel front they're not Dunlops but Firestone BRM's Got some front wishbone stuff to do for the MOT now (due by end of Jan) and have all the bits so might get on to that this week.

Got some front wishbone stuff to do for the MOT now (due by end of Jan) and have all the bits so might get on to that this week. And I have.... These cars suffer from a problem with the front suspension in that the main outer trunnion bolt passes through the this pressed steel wishbone and ovber a period of time wears the holes oval leading to excess play. I've already replaced the wishbones on both sides once and I discovered the problem was reoccuring when I changed the shocks earlier in the year. An old bodge is to weld a washer to the wishbone and you could actually do this in situ hence it was/is a popular get through an MOT lash up that would probably wear out in no time. I wanted to make an improvement as I don't want to change everything again anytime soon and decieded to improve on this "bodge" with a spare pair of wishbones. So I turned some thick "washers", reamed the bores to be a good fit with the bolts (much better than a regular loose fit washer) and welded them to the wishbones. I also decided to splash out on some SuperFlex bushes for them having been recomended them over other poly bushes. Might tell Mrs_Seth that's here birthday present done So today I had dry weather to fit it all. Here's the wishbone I removed from the pass side with a very oval hole. The other one was similarly worn. I had to get longer bolts to take account for the extra thickness and here's everything back together with new nylocs all round. Will have a more thorough look over the car but I don't think there's anything else to do for the MOT this year.

Hoorah! MOT for another year and a bit Popped in to see Keefy at Retro Custom while I was in the area and the track down to their workshop was the first bit of proper snow I've driven on with these new tyres. Mightily impressed. I "played" a bit and could brake really quite sharply without locking up.

Great 'proper' fix on the suspension Seth. I'll be taking a look at the Spit this evening as I'm sure they're the same layout Congrat's on the ticket - and the 'new' steels look fantastic it has to be said . John

Cheers John. Yep Spit is identical. I could do you a pair of wishbones as per mine on an exchange basis if you want me to?

I'll do you a deal mate - snowed under with the Big Six's at the minute but want this done asap. I've got a few spare TR6 steels, will hand over some if you're still interested. I need the space TBH. Will PM you once I've plowed through and sorted some out for you. Sound fair enough?

I would like your old wishbones a some point (though there'd be no rush) or I'd be stuck without spares should I need to go through it again.

That's a given - I'll sort out the steels and I'll rip apart the Spit when I can get over to drop all of it together. Plenty of warning will be given

The old Yazaki rev couter I had clamped to the column was a bit small and didn't give an accurate reading. When the flimsey bracket I'd lashed together broke some months ago it just got removed and put to one side. Had another tach "in stock" though so finally got round to fitting it today. I made up a cardboard template for the new pillar mounting a couple of weeks ago. Used it to mark a piece of aluminium sheet. The scribed another circle about 6mm inside and went roudn it with the centre punch. Drilled on the punch marks first with 5mm, then 10mm. Clamped it to some wood to help prevent the drill catching. Then on with the filing. Finished shape. Put the fold in using angle iron in the vice and marked/drilled mounting holes. Transferred these to the car using masking tape. Screwed on. Much betterer ;D Should take it back off really and smooth the surface to match the switch panel...

Not a bad place to put it. I keep meaning to put a tach on mine as well. Yeah, Its to big to go underneath the dash where you cant see it anyway, I didn't want to chop into the dash pad which is otherwise perfect and was under strict orders for it not to block visibility She's happy with it there MrK, Crackle black is an idea but I do like raw aluminium... Oh, I finally fitted the auto electric aerial on Friday too so I'm really in the good books at the moment. ;D
