I could spend my life reading in here, but it takes a while and i never seem to tempt myself back in. I miss some quality builds thanks for dragging this up from page 134 BC, now i have to update it basically its all runnin, mot'd and taxed. I wanted it to be a surprise for r-r07 because i didn't want to look a prick when i failed to get it done. anyway, we got to here- thats the windage tray in position. it takes some of the excess oil away from the crank allowing the engine to be freer revving. here i am trying to fit the sump and oil pump in one, its the only way to lower the sump without removing the engine. fiddly is not the word. implausable is. thats the max clearance right there. 10mm headed bolts are to stop the windage tray dropping, the sump bolts hold it in you see. I could fiddle two longer bolts into the sump to hold the sump and gasket into positon and it pegs the windage tray, then i removed the two temporary bolts. all fitted bit of a problem at one point. I fitted tii flat top mahle pistone onto my existing rods. i examined the bearing shells and found them to be perfect, so refitted them. i turned the engine over each time i fitted a rod starting with no.4. a peice of debris fell into no.2 as it bound up! heres the damage it did! thankfully i had some new standard size shells, so i found a bad spot on the crank and polished it out and re-assembled the rod and checked it. it bound up again! basically it had picked up on the chamfer of the oil way in the crank and I hadn't seen it as it was at the top edge of the crank and i was under the car. boll*cks. thats shell no.2 fcked. finally it was fine and it took not long to wire and plumb it up. heres a quick vid of it running about the 3rd time- i'll stick some more up when I've had a sort out of build pics. thanks for the positive comments

someone better whoop my ass for not updating this I am a b*stard, son of 1000 fathers with 1000 brothers, all of them b*stards just like me..... anyway, where di we get upto last time? oh yeah.... it was coming up to rr07 on the build front and I stopped posting to get it done. after the problems with the bearing shells, it all started to come together rather frighteningly quick! after all the good work the bleedin' clutch m,aster cylider died on me. a seal kit just didn't do the trick, the bore was rusty and wouldn't really hone. m/c's aren't cheap so I improvised with this LHD e28 cylinder mounted on a fabbed adapter- works fine! got the interior all emptied of the stuff I was storing in the car, it looked so empty! nice coat of underseal to stop some of the drummiong you get with no sound deadening- once that was dry I put the carpet back in- as I had put loads of curse word at the start of the build on the carpet, I then had a huge water leak and then a brake fluid spill on it, so I'd given it a hose down a while back and stored it away in the shed. done with a soapy solution of lorry wash and scrubbed with a stiff broom, then hosed off it came out quite OK i think. getting the leccy bits to work in harmony was tricky. the n/s/f indicator blinked once then went out. after I traced an earth prob on the relay I then found it wouldn't work. great! of all the things after a 1hour investigation, it was in fact......... THE BULB! at this juncture we are here- got some stainless button head allen bolts in m5 thread, some stainless washers and nuts from tek hardware on ebay, under £15 for half a metric tonne of bolts. I felt it was reasonable . and then spent a nerve wracking saturday afternoon fitting the turbo arches to the car- mot round the corner, woooooo! which of course it passed ;D thanks spacekadett for taking it and his boss for passing it. even tho he did mark it up as "multi-coloured" ;D some insurance from the ever wonderful adrian flux and I was of to get 12 months road rent. planned to usee and abuse it so didn't mind paying the full 12 months. heres the first pics of it road legal- yeah! some more playtime pics coming....

now I'd done rr07 and a norfolk meet or 2, she was going ok. underfuelling was a problem, got over by cheating basically I clamped the fuel pressure regulator in a vice and gave it a nip. I used a pair of sockets to get a firm clamp on the reg body and done very tiny squeezes. it took three attempts to get it right but it was OK i thought. in doing this, it increases the spring tension over the diaphram incurring a higher regulated pressure. don't know what it is but its higher than 3 bar so i tried it out by thrashing the off it round RAF marham last september it highlight the need for ares of improvement. one is it overheats after a caning. about 10 mins tracktime on the max, 20 if treated gentler. I will be doing this soon, I haven't yet as its ok on the road. I'm upgrading the radiator core size as they marginal when new let alone played with. I'm also making use of my oil cooler and got this oilstat/ sandwich plate yesterday of course I also went along to the ppc rat look feature- I'm still so proud of my 15 minutes of fame- thanks andy warhol ;D I won't bore you with too many details, but boy what a day! wan't to know how they did the cover shot? a bit like this- with the camera set to a longish exposure, the car is pushed and the shutter tripped, resulting in this- ;D ;D ;D ;D and then i did some work to it- basically the factory rear springs are softer than a melted mr whippy '99'. originally I fitted some helper coilovers and caravan spring assisters to stop the back bottoming out. but I soon succumbed to the lower is better school ;D I found some soils in my special pile from an e12 528i. front coils at that. if they can put up with a heavier car and a 2.8 engine, they might be OK i thought. the diameter was the same, but they needed some shortening say hello to mr grinder! I wasn't toally happy so chopped a bit more, then a bit more, but never too much at a time. as there's no "dead" coils, they try to ride out at full extension, so I made some little keepers to hold them in place before I lock wired them in for extra measure- took the shocks off to help them settle quicker and then started on the fronts. I cut one whole coil off. I could do it on the car , but the legs come off easy so done it on the floor. took the weight off with some clamps and then sliced the offending coil right off! I drilled three holes around the strut and lock wired the spring in place like so- more in a mo....

of course the thing with lower is the wheels are closer to the body. my wheels extend past the original arches so now they touched, badly. solution was to pull the arch out, didn't have to look flash as you can't see them,so- one bottle jack and piece of wood later and it was great! whilst playing I cut the bumper up. its not what you call good by a long chalk, its as bent as a £27 pound note! being all inspired I fitted an mgb oil cooler into it. I hole sawed the top and then let the front in with a slitting disc. crude but then I had just done a rat look feature not yet plumbed but coming soon.... and its riding like that. took it to oxford edition and poeple seemed to like it. rocking some bad anti-stance tho, it seemed to settle a load more. so I took a half a coil off to correct it a bit- now stting like that. its a little deceptive as the rear arch is lower down the body than the front meh, I'm gonna make some coilovers I think. and I'll leave you with the video in my sig uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aocQLbzGvQU

Was mightily impressed at Ace night fella. Some great work and a really well put together motor! Sounded fantastic peeling off out of the car park ( shame on you! ) I'd be too busy enjoying caning it to get it back in the workshop for the bits you have planned! ;D ;D
