1966 VW Type 3 Fastback:
ive owned this since april 2002, was off the road for about 25 years before i picked it up...it had been bought off the original owner in 1999 then owned by two different people before me but never driven...i put it in my barn with my friends cars and started to work on it....i mot'd it, then lowered it, drove it to a few shows, then discovered the engine was a lemon...so a cheap 1600 type 3 singleport engine was located and fitted....
....i drove it in this guise till last autumn where i sold the engine, sold my 1210's, sold lots of vinyl...er sold lots of things to raise money for the new engine, exhaust and soild mount kit for the gearbox
1911cc type 4, 0 mile new engine incl new case etc....cam not broken in....this might sound normal but it was built 7 years ago by Jim Calvert @ Stateside and then put on a shelf in a blokes garage! it turned up being offered to my friend and mechanic Trigger @ Thingamies Beetles in West Drayton...i ordered a full stainless system and 2.5" muffler from Rich aka Turbo Thomas and due to trying to complete a degree and a friend having work difficulties its only just got fitted before xmas ;D
the bellows needed some 'fettling' (understatement!) to carry on the stock air set-up, also we realised the old rear shocks were shot as the exhaust was hitting the floor on acceleration so some generic coilovers were place on the car, with two coils removed to get it sitting right again and the shocks to work fully. a red top facet competition pump and filter were purchased from rally design, and oil temp, pressure and tach were got from autometer sport comp range.
ive put 250 miles on it so far, getting ready for the oil change, valves doing, gauges fitting, etc etc i need some wider tyres on the front, the 135s don't have much grip anymore...gonna try to put some neg camber on and a bag of sand to see if this can stop the washing out in the meantime whilst I'm trying to get more money.
and a big thanks to Trigger for fitting this engine!
once run in will be going to raceshack for a dyno session, also when money permits getting some wide low profile tyres for the front to aid grip, grant steering wheel, seats with headrests, tints, h4 headlights.....
