- Change brake lines round on master cyl so I don't eat another set of rear pads in 3000 miles and have almost new fronts Done 11/04/08 Well that turned out to be the daftest thing I've ever done to my car - 181 trackday miles with naff all brakes - disconnected the ABS controller and had rear barakes that would lock up with the slightest touch at 130!!! Made for an intersting spin!!! Lambda sensor went dead on route so she guzzled some juice 105 litres in total Tyres wore evenly (especially considering they were unevenly worn before) so camber adjusters on the front are a huge improvement Looking forward to the next one when I'll have brakes again!!

I really wanted a Opel Monza, but I left that idea where it was because I didn't find a Monza in Estonia... Hoping the best for you and your Monza When racing, always wear you seatbelt

Still from experience I'd much rather have a "moment" on track than on the public road! Anyway I have to admit I have been following your Monza posts with interest, one of my favourite child hood cars. Shame there are so few left in good nick.

Tyres wore evenly (especially considering they were unevenly worn before) so camber adjusters on the front are a huge improvement Unfortunately they won't do another trackday - the rears are flat spotted and the fronts have way too much shoulder wear to risk using them. So I bought another set today only now I think with camber I can try a wider fitment so having spent the last of this years car budget and got a few quid change out of £300 - 225/45's are on route ;D

I totally agree - esp when it's an airfield track where there is nothing hard to hit Anyway I have to admit I have been following your Monza posts with interest, one of my favourite child hood cars. Shame there are so few left in good nick. I know but there is at least a good club for them and a die hard fan base to make sure as many as possible survive

I've just read pages 1-25 straight, impressive and inspirational stuff. I hope to go down the same lines with my E21.
Cheers!

You have too much free time but glad you liked the thread and inspiration on here in any of the threads is not exactly in short supply SWMBO always complains that I should have bought a 2 door three series as a track car "proper car with a boot" Shes probably right but I'll stick with this one

University coursework my man I spend all day avoiding work, lots of time for Retro-rides that way! Your car would be less unique if it had a BMW badge on the back though. E30s are still common, but E21s are becoming hard to come by.

Blimey this was a fair way back in the section Anyway been promising to triple carb the Monza for a long while and getting bits a pieces together to sort it before the summer I planned to do this as an interim stage before I went to stand alone engine management and individual throttle bodies. Anyway the manifold I sourced from Holland was a custom one and I thought I'd bettter check a few things out. Obviously I know 24V engines fairly well and I've got a fair selection of stuff thats tailor made for working on them. So spare head on a custom make head stand. So this head is std and not ported - it's a well know tweak for 24V engines to match the port to the gasket shape and open up the area where the injector fires. incrrases bhp and torque and improved mpg This pic shows the area commonly removed inside the gasket area - the red line will be explained later.... So normally there is a fuel rail manifold You can see in this pic why material is frequently removed from the head - lousey tolerances and clearances So based on the fact that this head is std and the one in my Monza has been opened up to the shape of the gasket I was concerned that I might have issues with air leaks!! Fit inlet manifold flange Quick line of paint along the top edge remove and stick the gasket back on - ooops So I need to resolve this..... I don't exactly have a well equiped machine shop in my garage but I have a couple of bits of 5mm ally plate, a jig saw and some aluminium cutting blades, some files and some porting grinders. So I made these OK so not pretty but functional Couple of home made gaskets and that'll solve my problem So chuffed with my success I moved on a bit - next thing I need to sort out was the trottle linkage so I made a prototype that was rubbish I then had a rethink That's the template now all I need is some aluminium angle iron the right dimension

if youve got some dimensions i can bend you a bit of ali at work
|
|
Lets clear up car terms: "Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car. "Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car. "Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence. "Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Top notch Ian!! Great ally fabbin' Zgillorzez! Am watching this with keen interest. Well hopefully the last part required is now on route to me or will be tommorrow Some stud length to cut down to make the right length studs (24 of em so i'm buying shares in a hacksaw blade company and Band aid/elastoplast) gasket paper for the gaskets, drill and tap the pivot rod to make the upper linkages then add some extra return springs to weight up the throttle I guess then all I need to do is bolt em on - balannce them up set the tickover and drive the car to Ducks ford meeting (that'll be interesting to see how far out the jetting is) Videos once it's running are obviously mandatory

Brilliant! Your Monza just gets better and better. I might have some gasket paper knocking around if you need it. Lemme check tomorrow.

How did I miss this? triple carbs mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Love it. Dunno chap - lots of excellent stuff in this section of the forum - easy to miss stuff Anyway Linkage mounts MKII Now ready to mark up and drill the pivot bar Once the right length threaded rods arrive And a nice along the line shot Diucks ford National show on Sunday on Carbs - well I haven't given up yet but it's slim to no chance Jobs to do - Fit last Dellorto Throttle lever (when it arrives from Italy via UPS) - Fit 3 x equal length rods for upper lever on pivot bar that are in post from birmingham - the kit I bought caters nicely for twin carbs 2 of most rods and 4 of one of them - sods law the one with four I need Six!) - Drill and tap the pivot bar for the three lever pivots - Drill and tap the pivot bar for the throttle linkage pick up - Drill the pivot bar for retainer R Clips - Shorten it to the correct length - Fit and locate 3 x additional return springs (also with Dellorto lever from Italy) - Find 2.6 Carlton throttle cable - Original one is too short (on the case but NLS so the throw cash at it option and buy a new one ain't the easy fix) - Make bracket to hold cable to rocker cover (that will be "heath robinson" to start with till I find an asthetic solution) - Make gaskets for manifold to head x 4 (Got gasket paper and scalpel) - Fit carbs and linkage to car - Oil fiters and fit (need to order oil ooops - still I can always run em open ;D) - Set up and balance carbs on linkages - Fit Fuel pressure regulators x 2 and fuel hoses to carbs Run engine and balance with vac guages (on route I still like ebay for odd stuff - like a set of six vac guages on a rail for £16 - result) Yep too much to do in too little time but hey it will be nice when it is done
