Hello all, I've had a little spare time on my hands lately and so have knocked up this page on my website giving some details of my long winded (and long neglected) Escort Mk3 Cabriolet rebuild and modification project. Click on the link below to see the page. www.escortupgrades.co.uk/Menus/TheChariotFiles.htmToo see the rest of the site with info on my other toys (Cortina and VW Campervan) click on the link in my sig. Hi Street, I'm glad you've found the site useful. Not that I've completed the rear disc conversion bit yet. It's on the list of things to do (a list that's long enough to see me into retirement!).
The Escort might be on the road this summer if all goes well but there are a few things in the way at the moment. I'm getting married in march and I've got to get the Cortina finished yet aswell.
Your car looks a bit tasty, have you got any pics up here anywhere?
Regards, Smiler.

Yep its on here, entitled "82 mk3 escort". I think its been delegated to page two of readers rides as i havent updated yet, but as soon as i get a digital camera in a week or so i will show the progress so far ;D
I'dbe interested to know if your RS turbo master cylinder irons out the huge pedal travel that you get with rear disk conversions?
Oh, and congrats on the knot tying! ;D

Cheers mate.
Forget the Series 2 RS Turbo master cylinder, you need the master cylinder from the 1.6i Orion. It's a bigger bore cylinder.
Daveboy, thanks for the compliment. Sorry, didn't mean to ignore you.

Ahh right, thats worth remembering. I am considering trying to fit a remote servo from something else like a rover or whatever i can find with one. I'm thinking it will get rid of the stupid linkeage bar that runs across the bulkhead. Also, if its from a car that has disks all round as standard, it may have a big enough master cylinder to shift enough fluid to give a better pedal feel....... thats the theory anyway! Brakes arent really my forte but I'm swatting up on it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the cross linkage, it's not as bad as some people make out (except prehaps the RS 1600i version) and my brothers 1.6 Orion had a very firm pedal which is what led me to the Orion master cylinder.

Oh, just wanted to point out at this point that although my car looks like a convertible version of the RS 1600i (for which I make no apologies, I think they look very good and are very period) it is not badged as such. I had the graphics specialy made for me. Instead of having the legend 'RS 1600i' on them it has 'SG 2000i'. This is to show my initials as I built it, not RS, and to show the new engine size as it is now powered by a 2.0ltr Zetec.
Smiler.

A bit of an update, I pushed the car out of the garage today! This was actualy to get to the stash of Cortina parts trapped behind it which I've now put on ebay in one big auction. Whilst the car was out however I did give it a wash and take some pics. Here they are: Not sure about those wheels. They are 15" but just seem to lokk a bit small. RS? Ithink not! I built it so it's having my initials on it. Oh, and it's now a 2.0ltr My daughter seems to approve. ;D I might even start work on it again soon. Regards, Smiler.

Hey that looks stunning! First time ive seen proper pics of it Very nice touch, the SG2000i..... after all, you built it so why let someone else take the credit! Not too sure on those wheels, kinda like them, nice deep dish on them and everything, but ive always been a fan of period alloys on retro cars thas just me though How can you resist not working on her and getting her finished for summer!

The wheels came on a blue 'spares' cabrio and didn't look right on that either. A set of RS 7 spokes would of course be nice ar there are two possible modern alternatives, both by team dynamics (i.e. Halfords specials). There's the Diablo with drak cpokes and a polished rim or there Motorsport wheel in dark grey (think it's called 'Anthracite').
