Looks really good! Are you sure it's the headgasket that's on the way out? Have you done a compression test to make sure? Isn't the TD engine in those the same as the Golf Mk2 TD one? If so, shouldn't be too bad a job to sort. Good luck with it!

If so, shouldn't be too bad a job to sort. Good luck with it! The waters gone down, the oils going up and theres sludgy residue in the rocker breather - so I reckon its the head gasket. Yeah the engine is basically the same as the MK2 Golf version, only the job is made more awkward because of the tight engine bay. Unfortunately I'm entrusting a local garage with the job which will no doubt be expensive I'm saving my first head gasket job for the Derby.

Head gasket has been sorted now since Christmas - it turned out that the head was cracked across from the water jacket to one of the valves So one brand new complete head direct from VW Germany later and we are up and running Still abit problematic to start in this cold weather (doesn't run on all four cylinders for a bit just after start up) So some new glow plugs & some investigation with the wireing to these I think is required. Despite my problems I still think the 1.6TD is the standard T25/T3 engine of choice - it sat at an easy 70mph all the way to Dubfreeze the other weekend whilst returning a good 35-40 mpg Anyway heres a couple of pictures from the Edition 1000 Ace Cafe meet in Janurary - shamelesly linked from the e1k Ace Cafe site.... With my mates G60 Corrado Alongside a rather funky MK6 Polo with whitewalls

Nice work on getting it sorted, my mate deals in these sorts of things and we did an import Westfalia last year with 'Brownstar' stickers on it. Got a few heads scratching at Van Fest... T3s rock. ;D

I could easily live in that!!! Can I rent it? Of cause - my rates are favourable! I need to get some money back for the cost of all the new parts Oh - the van is my daily driver so you might have to put up with being moved about a bit Irol - LOL @ 'Brownstar' ;D Retrosteve from VZi seems to deal with alot of import T3s, he's currently got a rather ratty looking Whitestar for sale - hes nicknamed it Sh**estar

Ok, I finally got my new wheels fitted after getting all my new nuts & bolts & spacers from Machine 7 - And I must say i'm rather pleased with them, they change the whole look of the van I think - more modern perhaps? Will keep hold of the original Ronals though as i'm also rather fond of those aswell I've also made some new door speaker builds to replace the homemade efforts of the previous German owner, that had got affected by moisture running through the door. Whilst I was at it I also repaired water damage to the R/H door card & made some new vapour barriers. Hopefully some 'Acoustically transparent' foam protection baffles should avoid future damage from water that enevitably gets into the doors. BTW the tweeters are fitted behind the top grilles left over from the previous installation R/H L/H Before re-fitting door card

STOP PRESS.... Well the van has now gone, after a bit of a tempestuous [Sp?] Relationship - what with having to fit a new head & most recently a new turbo to the engine - and the need to raise some funds for a imminent house purchase (which has now fallen through ) It has been sold & headed off last weekend to more southern climes. Having given it a good clean prior to the new owner veiwing it I decided to take it for one last spin & take a couple of final shots of it.... as an 'ode' to the old beast here they are; bye bye Multivan
