Finally decided its time to post up pics of my Van and my latest purchase. this is my van as I bought it, and basically how it still looks and this is how it will look... thanks to photoshop heres a shot of the roofrack loaded up. The ammobox was actually my Grandfathers and dates from WWII behind that is a massive Camo net which is going to see use at shows in the future. thats the van now onto my other toy. this 69 bug has been garaged for 14 years and was dragged into the sunlight today for the first time since then. It didnt want to leave !! Peek-a-boo the last tax disc it saw its actually beige and its out !!! Now the fun begins... i'll keep this updated. Plans are a nice drop in altitude and get it legal and on the road. This is intended to be my winter car so getting the heaters working is also on the cards.

Nice...judging by your sig your camper actually saw Millitary Action ... altho, not sure what Millitary Action in Switzerland! I think it went up the mountains to check if the snow was still there. It was actually a Radio Comms van in its day but all the equipment was removed way before I got my grubby little hands on it.

you'll have to fit a load of extra ariels now, just to look authentistic! In typical Swiss army fashion they'd have to be ariels that fold out, and have little bottle openers and wire cutters on them too! ;D ;D Seriously though, that van is bloody cool, dead authentic looking too, it'd be cool if you could find out what sort of markings the swiss army would've painted on it when new and had some authentic looking numbers on the doors etc!

I'm not sure if it did have marking tbh, that is the original army paint and I have seen pics of another Swiss radio van and that didn't have marking either. I would like to find out more about its history though. Going to send off for the old VW birth certificate but not sure about getting info from the Swiss army about its active service history. Oh, it does in true Swiss Army style have a fold out map table, unfortunately I only have the old out support arm and not the actual table top

**UPDATE** Had the van lowered... a bit. Its not the whole deal yet, I'm waiting for a straight axle kit for the rear at the moment, so for the time being the backs been turned down 1 spline and the front has had adjusters fitted and lowered to compliment the rear stance. Basically its getting there, just slowly

really do love that bus mate!! It will be SO sweet when its just the leeeeetle bit lower All buses need safari's to - do you have them? Shame you don't have the top of the map table. Are you going to attempt to re-create it? I'm guessing you've pretty much no chance of finding a replacement. Any update on the bug?

Cheers Keefy I have not got safari's at the moment but they are on the marked up on the 'To Do' list. I'm not going to try to recreate the interior, I think it would be quite difficult to actually find out what was installed let alone find the right equipment. What I do plan is some kind of army style camping interior, not sure how to acheive it but maybe hammocks for rear seating that can be stretched out to become beds. With regards the bug, I stripped the interior pretty much straight away and found one hole in the drivers side floor pan and the passenger side heater channel has a bit of rot, but apart from them two instances its pretty clean. Due to the 14 year old fuel that was left, the tank has been pulled out and cleaned and the fuel lines cleared out and replaced where needed. The bug is my first real project that I'm getting my hands really dirty with since I done my old fezza, so I'm taking it easy but still really want it running and on the road for the Winter... we'll see if I make it

safaris are def needed!! have you tried the SSVC forums for the info on what the interior used to be like? A mate just said to me a '58 swiss army bus just got sold on thesamba to the uk and it is 95% complete. If you can track this guy down maybe he can help you? sounds like you've done ok with the bug mate, nice one!

I tried that, the '58 used to be owned by Luke at Terrys Beetle services. He sold it off and someone ripped into it and IRSed it. Luke then bought it back and at that point I tried to arrange a meeting with the van. This was just before Volksworld show and he was a bit busy for me to pop down and said to come over after the show. I waited but the van sold in the meantime. I asked for details of the new buyer but got nothing I was hopeing to see it at a few shows this year but it didnt appear where I was, maybe next year

Looking great Lee! Even at this stage is verging on slammed...certainly on the proper side of the lowered/slammed boundary if you know what I mean!
Have you had to change the tyres for clearance?
