Thought I'd give this a thread of it's own, like....
I bought this car back in May off the 'Bay for the princely sum of £51, with a few weeks T&T left on it.
My initial plan was to chop it up, flogging the valuable bits on and weighing in the left-overs.
The woman I bought it off had owned it from new and basically begged me not to chop it up. Feeling all guilty, I decided I wouldn't !!
The car was originally supplied in West Germany, perhaps explaining the right povo spec (not even 'leccy windows!!)
It was brought to the UK in 1998 when the owner's returned from Germany for good.
So it was boshed in for an MoT and rather to my surprise flew straight through!!!!
It runs like an absolute dream and is fully historied. The only downer is the bodywork which is, let put it nicely, a bit ropey!
Which is odd, because underneath it's absolutley rock solid in all the places you'd expect it to be shot to pieces. Sills, inner wings, chassis members are all spotless while the doors and outer wings are crusty as hell.
As I 'donated' the car to my brother, who is fairly skint right now having not long finished uni, all the repairs are being done on a shoestring! So it's a case of wag rather than weld for now.
The 'wrong paint' fiasco:
Looks sh*t, but does the job, for the time being...
Also boshed my ex-318iS BBS rims on for now:
which will be eventually be replaced by some of these:
a set of which i have currently residing in Rmad's garage.
There's a set of -40mm springs to go on too, which should improve the appearance no end.
At present, including all the bits to be fitted & the purchase price it has cost about £145. Even when you add in £25 for the MoT and £90 for tax, that's still MEGA CHEAP for a car that will crack a ton-twenty!
Right bargainous!
;D
