Great find. These are quite thin on the ground now too, these weren't common when new neither. Build her up and make it smooth... Looks a bit like the b@stard brother of the scirocco mk2....Giorgio Giugiaro did them both.

Managed to get the second one picked up last night. The shell is not that bad (well not beyond repair anyawy) main problem, apart from the missing engine, is the fact a lot of bits have been stripped from it. So its looking more like a spares vehicle plus axle for chevette project. Now all I need is a handy vauxhall engine to check for bellhousing fitment it should bolt up as its supposed to be a bedford van engine. I am considering fabricating a new exhaust manifold as I am not too convinced about the original design. I always thought primary pipes are supposed to be the same length until they meet. This manifold is only three inches deep in total. Gonna have to check space and clearance when I start putting it back together and see what I can come up with/be arsed with ;D

I am not sure that those rules about manifold primary pipe lengths etc are so critical when feeding a turbocharger. Saying that, the existing manifold is clearly a crummy design, due to the fact that every one you see is fugging cracked! almost!
I'm not sure about this bedford van engine carry on. I know that the Bedford Midi used this engine in non-turbo form, but thats because it was a rebadged japanese Isuzu van. I think this is where this story comes from. I don't think the Pizza engine has anything at all in common with any european GM products.

Purchased for the tidy sum of £42 due to headgasket problem (slight water leak between 2 and 3 but no "cottage cheese" as he put it. Pretty tidy all round, interior immaculate apart from the dog hair and to top it all a boot full of genuine Isuzu spare parts purchased from an isuzu dealer that was closing down and a spare head . Among those spare parts are two brandnew headgaskets ;D The piece de resistance a spare car ;D. F reg lotus handling, stainless exhaust (with rust on so I think he was conned) five spoke alloys but no engine. So I will either end using it as a spares car or get another engine to go in it possibly an XE or alternatively get a shuvvit saloon and put the gearox and back axle into it. What's the Mk1 escort i see lurking in the background?!?

Thats my long term project. I have had it for just over 9 years. When I lived at my parents it spent most of its time in their garage. I bought it with roll cage, 2.1 pinto, 5 speed and atlas axle fitted but all had been done badly. I would normally do a bit of work with it in the summertime get sick of all the problems then park it up again till the following year. Then when I got my house 4 years ago brought it over here and started sorting it properely. Started using it for autotesting with a welded diff. Then got hold of a cheap LSD rebuilt that and fitted it. By this time rust was trying to eat it away. So I started collecting parts for a rebuild .Then during an autotest at whitby last year I managed to stuff it into a fence/hedge/tree ;D and it has been parked up since. I am waiting till I finsh my garage (as funds/time allow) before I rebuild it fully. But basically the floorpan needs replacing both front wings slam panel, radiator panel, front panel and bonnet. I have a big valve head and twin dellortos to go on to it. Planning on turreting the back end and fitting discs. One day ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Plan for today had been welding the Monza but thanks to the weather I decided to start stripping the spare Piazza when I got back from work. I would have preferred to keep it until the other one was on the road but don't have the room at the minute so idea is to strip pretty much everything I can and then weigh the shell in during the week. Since it was already on the trailer decided just to strip it on there otherwise I wouldnt be able to get it back on. Best £80 I spent that engine lift means I could get it to a decent height to get the subframe off. One hour later job done ;D Hopefully tomorrow I will have a full day at it and get the rest off

Hurray! My £25 pizza is now in 'Afo's' scrapyard, Cornbrook, Manchester (0161 8727784!), and the absurdly heavy back axle is in my Altrincham lock-up. The car is complete except for the axle - turbo, intercooler, exhaust manifold etc are all present if any Piazza fans are reading this GET YERSELVES ALONG and save the bits!

Yes I was surprised how heavy those are I am sure its a fair bit heavier than an atlas. Admittedly it was complete with brakes calipers and suspension arms but still a heavy fugga

Slow/late start on sunday meant I only managed to get the axle of the car and nothing else. Managed to get in from work in reasonable time for once and got exhaust prop gearbox and pretty much everything else worth keeping of the car so get rid of the shell asap and start doing something productive instead of destructive for a change ;D
