Ayup Daz, Yep, it was mighty good of Jo to swap shifts with me, but I can't help feeling I have sold my soul to the devil! ;D Don't sell the GT, PLEAAASE!! it's undeniable 70's cool, be a pity to see it go, but hey, if it's to be replaced with something cooler, go for it! Nice Ascona by the way, not too sure about the IKEA style display of cushions in the rear though

Brilliant! Engineering work like this fasinates me.The skill and intelligence these people have is unreal. There's quite a few mad bikers doing stuff like this as well, such as this kawasaki Z1300 6 cylinder which has been chopped and an extra bank of cylinders attached. V12 bike anyone? www.gkweb.co.uk/galleries/z26.phpAlso this 48 cylinder two stroke beast! How the hell he rides that i'll never know! www.gkweb.co.uk/galleries/kwak48.php

Erm, due to reasons I have yet to fathom out (!) I have now sold the Ascona Times are hard and she had to go unfortunately. Since I also sold my 1275GT a couple of weeks ago I now have a sizeable 'retro shaped' hole in my car collection. Technically I no longer own ANY retro cars unless you count my '97 Mini Cooper (not really very old, but..). Not to worry, ever since I sold my old Mk1 Golf GTI I have been filled with regret, so once things begin to pick up (and I sell my house) I will treat myself to another. I suppose I will have to think up a new username now. Sharona the Ascona, gone but not forgotten (she's not dead!)

Daz, What can I say? YOU IDIOT! ;D it's a real pity that Sharona has gone, but this has made way for a Golf (or a Manta A? ) I don't know who is going to feel sicker when we see Jonesy's GT now, me or you! your old car, my old wheels, pants!

What can I say? When the chips are down, sacrifices have to be made :-(
I'm already regretting selling the GT. I just wish he would stop coming 'round in it, he's making me very jealous!
That Manta A was very sweet (wish I'd taken a picture) but I can't see me having any spare cash for a few months and I can't bring myself to sell the Cooper.

how much did you sell the ascona for if you don't mind me asking....I was after one for a while, but they really are thin on the ground these days!

I sold it for £950 because the MOT expires at the end of the month and there is no tax. That said, it was really solid underneath. Normally the chassis legs rot through. You really need to check these when you go to view any Ascona or Manta. You can expect to pay upto £1500 for a solid example with T&T. That's if the seller knows what he has ;-) They are very thin on the ground now and get snapped up really quickly. I had 24 seriously interested people after mine and the requests for more info are still coming in! I didn't even advertise it properly!
I can't tell you how painful it was to sell that car, but needs must, and all that.

How bout THAT: keep also in mind, there's the engine's specs here: www.risse-motorsport.de/shop_motor_tuning/24v/index.shtml

Hi Asconan, welcome to the site. Nice looking Ascona you have there. Unfortunately I had to sell my old 2-door. It's not all bad news though as I have a new 2-door ;D The thread for the my new Ascona can be found here retrorides.proboards29.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=1133372535I don't have any LSDs left so I'm afraid you will just have to keep searching ebay, although I doubt you will find a cheap one. The going rate seems to be around £450 for a used example. Personally, I don't think it's worth buying a used LSD at that price. Not when you can pay an extra £200 and have a brand new one!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Manta A was never an option. That was just Chris' teasing me because the guy who bought my old Ascona owned a rather nice Manta A at the time, and it started to give me ideas. I really did fancy another Mk1 Golf GTI though, I still do, but alas I spunked the last of my funds on the Ascona (no regrets ). It seems to have come full circle though. The guy who bought my old 1275 GT has now bought my Cooper and used the GT as a part-ex, so I now have my old GT back, all be it only temporarily. He's also the same guy who bought my old Mk1 GTI. He doesn't have that anymore though, which is a great pity as it was a really nice, tidy, original example in Schwartz black. It would have been nice to get that back.

hahha, you are unbelievable! Dood! You got another one! Hahahahaha, that's KILLER! And she's sexy too! About LSDs, well, I can get a brand new one here for 700 euros, so, I spose it ain't worthy looking for a new one in the UK, is it? € 700 = £ 420... Brand new! And goddamn it, LSDs are one hell of an investment for one's car! Not the freakin interior, not the engine, no nothin! I want one bigtime, hehehe. By the way, I'm one of the founding members of the Greek Opel Club. I was just surfin the net looking for a few Ascona pics (yeap, again! ;D hehehe) and I somehow ended up in your forum! Love it, btw! Good job! ;D

Yes, he's been on this forum a few times. Nice looking car and an interesting engine conversion.
Manta As never seem to fetch much money, which I find strange given that they are such nice looking cars. They are more interesting than the Manta B/C and are quite an unusual sight on roads today. Like a lot of older Opels they have a slight American appearance, kind of like a baby muscle car. Funky looks and simple mechanics; why aren't they more popular than they are? I like them.
The Mini is not for keeps sadly. Just got the log book back this morning so as soon as I drag myself out into the cold to replace the clutch and bleed the brakes it will be finding it's way onto ebay.

I'll pop it in the for sale section once I get it on ebay, so keep your eye out. It will probably be next week sometime. Nah! This one will be good as gold He's let it slip a little. Nothing serious, just silly little jobs like instrument illumination not working, loose bits of trim, slipping clutch and the brakes need bleeding. All these jobs will be tied up before it hits the bay. He's spent some money on it though. Recent respray, Snapdragonclubman's old 7x13" Minilites. Before I sold it earlier this year I fitted brand news Spax dampers and Hi-Los to the rear. I also gave it a brand new stainless steel Play Mini exhaust, an LCB and a K&N, etc. It goes quite well and sounds sweet ;D I used to commute from Stoke to Wakefield and back in it (200 miles round trip) everyday, so it's reliable. I've never had an unreliable Mini yet. It's no show winner, but it's solid and looks tidy enough. I gave him £1500 for it against my Cooper to secure a sale. I'd be happy to get that back. Rest assured, if the mortgage company have sorted my money by next week, I will be keeping it I'll get the jobs done and see where I am next week. More details and a couple of pictures when I place the ad.
