Here (hopefully!) are some pictures of my Opel Ascona. Please bare with me if this doesn't work as I'm not too handy at using these infernal box of electrics known as computers. Anyway here goes; Now to test if this has worked!

The car is a 2 door '77 Opel Ascona B. At the moment it runs a 2.0i CIH from a Manta GT/E. The original plan was to fit an XE but I've had a change of mind. I haven't really done much to it since I bought it about 12 months ago, other than lower the rear suspension, semi-strip the interior and fit the Cibies (which I think will be removed in the near future). I've been too busy tinkering with my other cars to get much done on it but that hasn't stopped me collecting parts. So far I have aquired some genuine GM replacement panels, a fibreglass Ascona 400 boot lid and bonnet, a close ratio gearbox with dog leg first and direct drive top, twin 45 DHLA Dellortos, Wilwood 4-pot alloy callipers and vented discs, quickratio steering rack, 2.4 CIH engine (yet to collect), Elliot tacho, 24 valve cylinder head which will be cut down to fit the 4 cyl block to create a 16-valve CIH (I like doing things the hard way), and a few more toys which I can't remember off the top of my head. I did at one point have an LSD, the xe conversion parts and some genuine Group B Manta 400 brakes but these had to go to fund my Minis. More details to come as and when I make progress.

How do you lose two cylinders from the cih head. I can work out how its possible to do it but have never heard of it being done before. Unless you have access to a machine shop I would have thought that would be rather expensive.
Going off from your topic slighlty does anyone no anything about the 2.2 16V engines as fitted to fronteras and some omegas as I have never heard of them being used in XE/ecotec conversions

Oh yeh, that's my car in your sig. Sweet!
The two cylinders are lopped off the back end of the head, there is some welding needed to the oil and water ways, it's not an easy conversion but it has been done before. It would be quite expensive but both of my brothers work at an engineering firm ;-)
I think the 2.2 16 valve is an ecotec, but I could be wrong. The 2.2 and 2.4 8 valvers are CIH engines though. :-)

Wow that cylinder head choppage sounds fascinating! I love it! Get cracking and send us some pics. Do you have any links to stories about this on the web? Do you have to get special cams made up to keep the firing order right? I presume you cant chop them down. Brilliant!

Cams and other parts are available from www.risse-motorsport.de/index.shtml There is more information from someone who has done the conversion here www.opeltuners.com/ You will have to use the search facility in the forum as I can't find the actual page at the moment. Since I changed some off my software I can't use the search facility. Try 16valve CIH or similar. It's an interesting project.

Here's another interesting site featureing a cut-down 24v head to make a 16v CIH. www.opel-kadett-c.de/The site also features some pictures of some very cool euro Kadetts.

This album contains a couple of pics of my 1275GT and my 1380 Cooper. ntlworld.photobox.co.uk/album/1564209 My friend Chris' yellow Clubman also makes an appearance in it's early sweet and innocent pre 7x13" days. The GT was going to be the recipient of a B16 Vtec engine. I still have the subframe but I have a new home lined up for the GT so it won't be with me for much longer :-( I think the Cooper's days are also numbered in my family :-( No plans to sell the Ascona yet, but never say never, everything has a price ;-) I need a new house! Retro cars cool, retro houses too much maintenance! I've also got a few more project ideas floating around my head and it's frustrating not having the money to do anything. A familiar scenario to you all, I'm sure.
