After driving for a few years and had a handfull of various cars, i decided that id loo for somthing nice and retro, having a scoot arround at the mk1 escorts made me decide for how nice they are they are but arnt - in my eyes worth the ammount that people want for them. So it was somthing old rwd and fun to drive, plenty of trawling ebay found me nothing, browsing another forum i came across this, rwd, check retro, check enough power, check right price, check
Price - more than the escort but less than you probably think, its not been advertised properly, was in the local free ads (which never made it - phew) niggles the clutch cable went on the way back but with the help ofsome bloke who was fixing his cav we bodged it well enough to make it all the way back with no hassles (read cracking 90+ on the manchester motorways)
Got a load of reciepts for the wheels ect been looked after well, with a bit of tlc it should be perfect
Plans for the mo get the little things tidied up get it spanking - get it rr tuned work it from there - its loud as hell i went slightly deaf after the drive back - cool all the same
Box is a bit of an aquired taste as its a really long throw and no lift up reverse or anything so its easy to go backwards when you think your in first
All in all gimmie a few weeks to get used to the rwd and i'll give my opinion of it
That is awsome, nice to see some more 80's hatch rally slag action ;D hope your bringing it to retro cars show would love to see it for real, it looks really clean.
Well its been an interesting weekedns work ive had the dash out refitted the heater matrix and pipework as it looks like it was just throw in rather than fitted, re done all the stero wiring and removed a load of previous owners bodges
Resprayed the rocker cover - cant tell in the pics but it was covered in paint cracks in smoke gery metailic (my old cav colour- had paint knocking round)
Rebuilt the 40's so ive gotta set them up so i can get moving
Left a message witha mate if all goes to plan have some stainless covers made up for some of the bay
Managed to discharge the battery - so thats on charge
Stripped out the back and going to get arround to giving it a lick of paint given it a vac out and a quick wipe over
Cleaned the seats/dash doorcards given the carpet a quick going over
Fitted an old momo gearnob i had instead of the sierra one that was there
Gonna try and get the back prepped and pained tommorw if i decide i don't need any sleep
Thinking of going rcs but havnt decided as yet, depends if i can be doing with the drive down with 4 gears
don't know that much about it was owned by someone in the owners club till 2003 and then owned by a guy who only used to use it on a sun, before that I'm not sure tbh
Beautiful. although I'd probably lose the lower spots though.
If you're lucky, you might be able to pick up a gearbox bellhousing to let you use a Ford 'box instead of the Talbot one. Then you'll be able to have a 5 speed box and it'll be a lot stronger than the Talbot one. A mate used to race an Avenger with approx 160bhp and he used a Ford box with no problems.
Had it for about a month now - which forum was it? just out of interest?
Well ive been fiddling since i got it trying to get eveything running right changing stuff for new and redoing previous owners bodges and doing general maintance
Well after finally getting my finger out, it was setup at skip browns yesterday afternoon, came out with 95bhp at the wheels and a load more overall grunt and driveablity, top end - god the webers were well out
Is gonna be a lot more fun, had it to 95 easily see how it goes when ive got an empty road to play with
The only video i got cos later on i was too busy playing to get a final run vid but this is about half way
