Yeah, i like the colour too Place is called A Frame Engineering, based in Barrowford, near Nelson in Lancs. The interior of his was sprayed somewhere in Padiham he told me - need to find out where. He fitted all the pipes etc.

This was a really cool project, I've always wanted to build something like that. And as a track-car with G60 Turbo engine it will perform as well... On our garage it's Lars who taken care of the Jetta-bit, now he have sold both. Both have low milage and BBS RS... I'm gonna follow this prosjekt, looking really good. ;D Here is pitcures of Lars's cars.

Wow just skim read to see what the 6 pages are about, and now i know, serious stuff, a road worthy racer has been one of my ongoing general aims forever. Good to see you are doing it, serious stuff, all roadside on a budget. You're localish too.

Cheers chaps. I'd love a 2 door - been watching a few on German ebay but if i get another car, it'll be somat other than another Jetta! Right, bit more progress on mine. Fitted bias pedal box, after removing a couple of brackets from the bulkhead: Fitted the gearbox to the engine (i know, still not got round to cleaning it : And fitted the brackets i bought in Austria last year: Not sure if the rear one is in the right place, and its only held on with two bolts. Also got a little spare piece, and no idea where it goes : Need to speak to a friend, as he fitted his last year : Just need to fit the OS engine mount, take the rear one back off, and then drop it all in the car.

Its a crossflow 8v probably from a new Beetle or American GTi - they used them over there rather than the normal 8v heads. I bought it at GTi International a few years ago - it's not quite standard anymore though Work that was done on the engine at RPM is as follows: Strip block and chemical clean all components Bore block to 83mm Supply JE 83mm pistons Lighten crankshaft counter balance weights Lighten flywheel Balance crankshaft assembly Balance conrods end over end Balance pistons Supply ACL bearings Deck block to correct squish Modify cylinder head, gas flow and fit 36mm exhaust valves Supply performance camshaft (lift .405 duration .280 timing 30/70 70/30) Machine head face to 8.5/1 comp ratio Fit turbo drain to sump Assemble unit for competition use. With the right turbo spec it should go OK.

After waiting for a day to myself with decent weather, i finally managed to get a little more done on the car. Fitted the engine with new mount brackets. Gearbox side was fine: Rear one was a bit of a pain, but got it to fit with a bit of 'adjustment': Re-fitted the turbo and intake: Got to get this modded slightly before i can fit it: No way it'll fit as it is, but that'll be sorted when it goes away soon. Fitted a couple of bits of spare pipework to see how it might be plumbed-in. I'm not overly happy with the way the intake faces, and would prefer if the throttle body was on the passenger side which would make plumbing it in a lot easier and give more space for the alternator and water pump on the drivers side, so need to give that more thought. Sort of like this instead: Anyway, next job is to remove the petrol tank, which unfortunately means dropping the rear axle Oh joy ;D

Last night removed this: From here: God i love working out in the open......not! Was bloody freezing by the time i'd finished! Removed the rear wheel arch trim on the O/S while the wheel was off, to reveal pretty much the same as can be found on the N/S: Bit of patching to do there then Got my quick rack in the post yesterday too - had forgotten about it to be honest, as the group buy was started ages ago and i paid at the start of the year. Something else to fit when i take the engine out again: Next i wanna fit the water pump and alternator to the engine, so i can check clearance issues with the intake, and then decide on the best way do deal with it.

No, its not knackered as far as i can see. Need to make sure its the GTi type thats fitted, and also bloke wanted it removing before he'd weld up the big hole where the spare wheel well used to be. Also gonna run all the lines in the car, so need to access them to replace and re-route.

Little update. After being laid up for a few months the Jetta's been dragged kicking and screaming from under its cover in the side garden and put back onto the trailer ready to be moved. Tomorrow it's off to a friends garage for some surgery on the roll cage - got some changes planned but won't get it all done tomorrow. I'll take some more pics post-surgery.

Sort of like this instead: I would prefer the intake that side myself as it gives you move movement/room with the intake. Why don't you opt for a different intercooler instead? I fitter a Sprinter I/C to a 20vt I built for a customer in a MK1 and it fitted pretty good, the Jetta may be slightly different tho due to the headlights! Nice project btw, you can never have enough Jettas I'm also planning on building a "Berg" rep in a MK1 Golf sooooooon

I've already ditched plans to re-do the front end and am gonna get a custom IC made instead - a local company does them and they are much deeper/thicker than the Sprinter ones - a friend has one on his S3-engined MK1 Golf. The SAAB one will be going on egay at some point. As for the intake, i've got my eye on one from America by USRT who do a short runner intake for the crossflow as well as a very nice fuel rail to match. Awaiting a respose to my email to them. Got a lot of other parts still to source for the engine, like management, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, pump - list goes on and on..... ;D

Took it to my friends garage this afternoon. Started the afternoon looking like this: Removed the door bars from both sides: Carried out some surgery to the main hoop, and made some new mounting plates to fix it to: And then modded and re-attached the bars that go to the rear turrets: I can't take the credit for most of the work - here's Dan hard at work welding, doing a much better job than I could ;D Taking it back in a fortnight to move the front legs onto the sills and then make some new door bars up with the 40mm CDS tubing I bought this morning. After that we're gonna triangulate the front legs up to the bars which connect to the turrets through the bulkhead, put a bar in the rear across the middle to mount the harnesses to, and put a bar across the middle close to the floor between the main hoop. Also gonna put one across the front where the dash used to be, and mount the steering culumn to that. Need to plate up the holes in the B pillar where we removed a strengthening plate to fit the mounting plates for the main hoop too. Before then i've got to tidy up the cage where the door bars have been removed, get rid of the remains of where the main hoop was attached to the floor (see photos) and remove the drivers seat mounts ready for new ones to be made and fitted several inches further back, like they should have been in the first place..... Starting to feel much happier with the cage now, as it getting closer to how I wanted it in the first place
