You've been busy, & spending rather alot of money - I take it they'll be Tesco value beans you'll be living on ;D I got my wheels back from BVJ, and to be honest I wasn't too happy with them either, three of the rims are ok - pretty nice finish actually - but on the fourth wheel the paint has reacted inside around the bolt hole recesses I got the feeling they had done them in a hurry since the reply I got when I rang up after three weeks of them having the wheels was 'they'll be done for the morning' One of the things that I thought they would have done aswell is mask out the mounting face which sits against the hub on the car, instead i've got a thick layer of paint Oh well - at least they charged me the price for doing three wheels, I didn't really want to wait for the one wheel to be re-done as like you I had to travel abit of a distance to get there Just annoying isn't it when you are unhappy with the service you get - obviously sometimes things go wrong, but some honesty would be more than appreciated, like a quick courtesy call to say, 'we've done the wheels & they are not come out as hoped - what do you want us to do?'

Oh dear, they really arn't doing well at the moment are they. My mate was very unhappy with his Pirelli's as they left a lot of dents/marks etc in the metal and just painted over them, and there was some reaction with the paint. I discussed with Andy's wife at length the problems with the wheels and she admitted that a lot of business comes from word of mouth etc as they normally do a great job and are well known in VW circles. I actually got a phone call from his wife to say that the centres for my ATSs and the Pirellis were ready on friday when i was on my way down to drop the wheels off - 5 weeks after i'd picked the wheels up in the first place....makes you wonder what is going on down there at the moment. I'm also now missing the ATS badges from the centres of the caps, so god knows where i'll get replacements from . I havn't managed to speak to Andy yet to see what he thinks of my wheels and what his plans are, but rest assured I shall keep everyone on this forum, and the others that i post on, updated with progress and what the outcome is. I havn't managed to explain to Andy yet that there are pictures of his workmanship on the internet, and at the end of the day, you are judged on your last job, not what you did in the past - it's his reputation on the line, and like his wife said, it pays their mortgage. If that doesn't give him a gentle nudge to get it sorted properly, then i can see his reputation going out of the window . I still can't believe i've agreed to buy the gearbox conversion to be honest - it was something that would have been nice to do in the future, but the opportunity came along and i couldn't resist. I've saved about £800 on the cost of a new kit, and as this is new/unused it should be fine and go well with the Peloquin diff and the AP clutch which i already have, so the gearbox should be bulletproof, but i could have bought a nice car for the money the gearbox has cost so far. I've also gotta pay the rest of the money for the engine work too, so its back into the red for a while till I get some stuff sold to pay for it all. Oh well, you only live once eh

Just another quick update - apart from the wheels saga which continues, the engine is progressing but won't be ready for collection on monday. As this is the first G60 Turbo that they have done using the crossflow head, they are finding lots of little problems they didn't expect (whoever told me this was a straightforward swap needs shooting ). The valves they got didn't fit as they weren't long enough, and they have had a little difficulty sourcing the right ones. The head has had to be welded as the oil ways didn't match up, and a new oil way drilled and the studs were different sizes - 10 and 11mm so either the head has had to be drilled to allow the wider bolts, or the block has to be drilled and re-tapped to accept the wider bolts (can't remember which way it was). However, Jim seemed happy with the way it's progressing and I might try and pop round to RPM when i travel to London on monday to say hello and have a look at the engine so far. Obviously, i'll post some pics if i do, together with the Quaife kit which i'll collect when i'm down there too. Other good thing is that i don't have to shell out for both the engine and the gear kit at the same time which will give me a chance to get the finances sorted....... Looking at all the wicked cars that keep appearing on this site is what keeps me going to be honest, as no matter what keeps getting in the way I can still see the finished product in my head and know that all the hard work will be worth it - seeing so many of you mad people out there turn wrecks and cars that most wouldnt look twice at into something that the rest of us look at and say 'oooh, thats cool' is all the inspiration i need. Thanks

Sorry, no idea bud, just the gold colour that they use at the refurbers. They don't have a massive choice of colours to choose from.

Quick update. Visited Racepower for a chat and to have a look at progress. They hope to have it finished in three weeks or so...we'll wait and see Anyway, block: Balanced and lightened crank, flywheel and pully's: Gorgeous JE pistons: Also picked this little lot up from a friend, to be fitted together with the Peloquin: Gonna have to sort the induction side of things out when i get the engine back - was looking at a nice Cosworth plenum chamber which looked like a good design, so might try and replicate that once i've managed to track down an inlet manifold for the head. Plenty to keep me busy once i get the engine back anyhow, so at least i won't be bored this summer

Cheers Stu - always nice to put faces to names and cars!!! I think we only stayed about 2 hours - I wasn't driving so wouldn't have had much say anyway, but it didnt look like the weather was gonna get any better throughout the day . Hope it didn't get too bad for you. Off to Woerthersee tonight, so will be coming back on friday fully motivated and full of ideas - and with a hangover, headache and suffering sleep deprivation ;D. Can't wait!!!! Now, if only i could fit some 8inch Mattig steels in the suitcase ;D

Nope, E38. Still have TUV certificate and fitting instructions with them, including a VW Motorsport sticker! Didn't realise Jetta and Golf arches were different, well at the rear anyway. Got a few other tricks planned, should be good when its done.

Yeah, really miss the red one. No fun not having something retro to drive . Bloke who did the cage and is doing some more work on it soon is building a Ford Puma rallycar. Saw it last time I was round there - looked like this: Thats the standard i'm aiming for. Right color too
