I picked this car up in June of last year. It's an 85 P-type with a 5-spd and LSD. The previous owner had swapped the 2.8L 5M-GE with a 3.0L J spec 6M-GE (190hp) and then added a straight through 2.5" exhaust and removed most of the emissions stuff on it. He also had a K&N filter on there which I just switched to an HKS foam element unit. He hit a deer with the car and so he sold it to me. I got a parts car from a buddy and replaced the whole front end and got some other parts sent from California so that all the lights would work and so on. I also got a MoMo wheel for it for $20 from a wrecker who didn't know what to do with it. So it needs some body work and paint to really make it look good. There aren't too many people who care about old 80s J cars like this where I live. They're all into Mustangs and Camaros and the like here. It's a bit of a sleeper, but by no means is it the fastest car on the block. Plans include fixing the body and all, adding a fiberglass rear hatch, dropping it and getting some SSR MKII-Rs or Mesh rims and then a turbo. Or a 2JZ from a later Supra. Heck, since I'm new here. I'm 22, a newspaper editor, and a late comer to the whole car thing. I've always been into retro stuff but never had a chance to get involved in wrenching until I went to college. Now I have my Supra, my roommate's 76 MGB and a buddy's Volvo 124S to mess with along with a Saab Sonett III that I'm restoring with a pal from my church.

Thanks. You're right. It does need more power but it still has potential. The nice thing about it is the M series motors in there have gobs of torque from early on. It's prolly 200hp but has easily 250 ft/lbs of torque. They aren't too heavy of a beast either so it goes a long ways. Here's the Saab. Picked it up for $900 after convincing my mate that it's cooler than a Datsun Z. I'd been wanting one for a while but after reading about it in Retro Cars, my heart was set. It's a mess but we got it running. Gonna pull the engine and tranny because it needs a new clutch. My only complaint is somebody took out the pop-up headlights and did a nasty job covering the holes. Since the mechanism is all gone, we just glassed over the holes, doing it correctly, but one of these day's I'll get a proper bonnet for it. But thats just nit picking. It will be a mostly stock restoration for now, unless I have my way and we get to build up the engine right. All it takes is money.

Whereabouts are you at. I was in Pennsylvania last year and it seemed like pretty much everyone there hit a deer on a regular basis. They even had special insurance to cover their cars for that damage ;D ;D

I'm convinced that the Celica Supra is the perfect donor car for my Cressy. I do like a good MA61!

Nice work with the front end, personaly I'd get another blue wing and fit a pair of blue arches on the rear with whites on the front and satin black the bonnet, just to even it up ;D

Thanks for the kind welcome. I'll see about getting a shot of the 6M. It looks very similar to the 5 seeing as they share the same head.
rmad- what engine does your Cressy have?

rmad- what engine does your Cressy have? It's a 4-cylinder 'R' motor....but other markets got 'M's, the car was clearly designed for a six...the engine bay is huge. I find it highly unlikely that Toyota would spend loads of money developing completely seperate cars of a similar size and I'm reasonably confident that a Celica Supra would supply a lot of bolt-in upgrade parts for my Cressy.

Nice Supra! Intresting Sonnet too....look foward to seeing them both returned to full health (if you don't enjoy mismatched panels and iffy paint like some of us ;D)

//Time for an update// Lessee... I got my Short Shifter installed with a JDM TRD knob on it to replace the curse word plastic RA Celica one it had. Then I went for wheels because you can't find good tyres in stock sizes for the car over here anymore. That's a set of SSR/RS-Watanabe RS-8s (16x7 front and 16x8 in the back) with Techno Toy Tuning wheel spacers and a set of Kyokugen 7-sided lugs. And Fuzion ZRi rubbers. I've got a few bits coming too: 30mm RCAs, a new alloy radiator panel, a full AC retrofit to replace the curse word Toyota system, and I'll be ordering a custom aluminum radiator soon. All that being said, paint will have to wait a bit. Currently, the battery and alternator are junk. It runs, but the dying battery and alternator mean I don't start her up unless I have to. Gotta pull the alt and replace it, and buy a new Optima battery and she'll be back on the road. The parts car I got for her is almost stripped. Gotta pull a few more bits so I'll have what I need for the front coil-over conversion and the spare cross member for my JZ swap. I still don't know if I wanna keep it NA with the 2JZ-GE or get a 1JZ-GTTE in there. To make it worse, a guy just offered a set of bolt-in mounts for a 1UZ V8 swap if I wanted em... tough choices. Cheers! Pete
