Well, as advertised before the Volvo is now long gone. So its replacement has been found,
Its the UmWelt 1.9 TD on a 94/L plate, 143K on the clock, fairly long mot, months tax, dodgy electric windows in the rear ( to be sorted soon ! ), four new tyres, loadsa new parts and even serviced the other week ;D, all for a couple of hundred quid, BARGAIN.
I've already been to sanburn autos ( www.sanburn.co.uk ) to sort parts for the problem areas, now just a question of going euro look with it !. Not exactly retro but it'll pull our trailer tent and give 50+mpg !.

My mate's got a TD 405 of similar age - like your Passat its economical, reasonably pokey, comfortable, so far been 100% reliable and looks kinda posh, yet cost just a few hundred quid
