Managed to find this thread but it was well buried . Anyway spent today getting the car ready for MOT. It gets used regularly and the only two things I was concerned about was the cable handbrake (shame the cannot just test the hydraulic ) and a small hole on the drivers side rear inner arch. The weak handbrake was down to the backing plate rusting through and no pin holding the shoe against the back plate. So removed the shoes and welded a new piece on to the back plate and made up a new pin and modded another spring I had to suit. Then turned my attention to the inner arch Doesnt look to bad from first glance. Cut the first piece out Then inspected a bit more and found a `repair` piece that has been put on before with a self tapper and loads of seam sealant . Removed a bot more seam sealant and found another hole and the back of the sill rotted through. So repaired the inner sill first then started repairing the outer Then finished off in the wheel arch and made up a new lower repair section for the arch. Once I get it ground down and skimmed over it shouldnt be too bad. Need to turn my attentions to inside the car now and then check teh other side. Not sure whether to leave the plastic sill covers off as they only collect wibblepoo and cause them to rot again.

I vote leave em off but you'll have to lower it or it will look bus high!!! Times getting short and need this out of the garage so I can start Craigs monza so I think I will have to leave them on until I have more time to remove them properely.

TBH I think the GSE is pretty solid, but while not faulting Ians work I don't think the front of the gold one is aligned right. The reason being the bonnet being a b*****d to open. You decribed the reason why perfectly in another thread.
P.S. Went to a job today and saw a nice 1975 Commodore 4 door in blue. Only had a quick look and no tax so the brain is working on maybe a sale there?

TBH I could have probably left a lot of it and it wouldnt have been picked up for the MOT but I thought I might as well cut it all out and then I don't have to touch those areas again for a few years. Mini update. Back on the road as of yesterday after it got a fresh MOT certificate. So I can enjoy it for the next week until the tax runs out When it will probably be off the road until the engine swap. Couple of pics I took while at the Raby castle show today, no close ups though as it needs a wash.

Plenty of work done but not much progress. While stripping more interior out of the car, the throttle pedal came with the carpet so that needed welding in. Soon as that was done I lost my brakes on the way to the NE RR meet Stuck caliper and boiled fluid Cooked pad Lovely, just like guiness Despite spending a stupid amount of time on it I couldnt get it ready for the retro rides show So instead I removed this late spec senator engine with big valve head, ready for the next stage of monza development. Its going to need a bit of a rebuild before going in as its a bit of an oily mess and as far as I know it used a bit of water when it was in the senator so not sure if that was down to leaks or head gasket, so I will play it safe. And in readiness for that I have been bracing my engine stand It was struggling a bit with Mrstigma`s 4 pot, it will have a connery with that big heavy 6 pot.

Autotest next weekend at Hartlepool so decided I would be organised and get everything ready well in advance for a change. So the tyre changer saw some action first Hopefully these lot should last the day out (plus 4 already on the car ) Then the next problem is the gearbox. The getrag box is great for road use but no good for autotesting, when going quickly from forward to reverse its too easy to get the wrong gear and I loose too much time on direction changes so I`ve made a gear restrictor. and another couple of pics of the inside.

I think you are close to going down a one way road with no turning back ;D To be honest its still a very practical road car, even more so due to its load lugging ability. Using it to carry a few acro props last week. I put in £30 of fuel on the morning of the NE run up to Hartside pass and managed 210 miles on it which to me seems pretty darn good. The only slightly negative point is the exhaust noise, sounds nice when driven hard but becomes tiresome on part throttle, so guess how I drive most of the time
