Done 120 mile since I put the fan on on Saturday seems to be getting around 19mpg so far. Driven pretty hard. With a petrol leak ;D ;D. SO I am well happy with that(not the leak the mpg) Only problem too much grip really hard to get sideways. Might try with 60PSi in the back tyres ;D Taking it off the road now till the weekend when I will fix the petrol leak.

A bloke on my way to junior school used to have a light blue '78 model, it would have only been a few years old and I thought it was the business. My Dad was driving Carlton Estates back then... Ahh. Good work, good colour too...

Decided against repairing the old petrol tank as its totally fubar`d. Cant track down an original tank anywhere but found out that mk2 carlton estates are very similar only change needed is the filler neck so its just a case of removing the old neck and attaching it with a piece of rubber hose. £67 brand new ;D ;D will fit that today.

Well now the roofs on the garage I finally had time to fit my petrol tank. One week late but never mind. Tank on no problem. Put a couple of gallons in started up. Pipe going to filter weeping a little. Ive never touched this pipe so I guess its been like this all the time. Changed that then try again. This time I notice that there is what looks to be some kind of flow regulator between the pump and the filter that is leaking as well. I cant see the reason behind this regulator as it has a normal regulator mounted the fuel rail . So as I havent been able to get hold of another one will just have to run it like this for the time being. I tried blowing through the regulator and it doesnt seem to give any type of restriction so it should be alright as it is. Take it for a test drive then the handbrake cable snaps So thats the next thing its gonna need.

Bloody excellent those Monzas!! Great car! Is the Monza fuel injected? If so, that part could be the accumulator (depending on what your pump set-up is). If it has an in-tank pump and then an external pump there's sometimes an accumulator in between the two to stop pressure spikes or air-locks if the fuel level gets low. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious to you ;D - it was just a thought.

Yes its injected but there is just the one pump mounted outside the tank this regulator or whatever it is was then after the pump just before the filter. It looks as though it is adjustable as there is what looks to be an adjustment bolt and locknut in the middle of it. Apart from that there is just the inlet and outlet pipes. It doesnt seem to make any difference to the running but I will have to try to find out what it is supposed to do as soon as possible.

Hmmmm, the thot plickens! In that case, my guess would be that it's some sort of regulator that "smooths out" the pulsing of the pump. Let us know when you find out what it does, I'm interested to find out!

Fitted a K&N yesterday to release a few more bhp and a bit more noise yesterday. (Induction now louder than exhaust ;D). Took it for a blast on the local back roads to test it out;D ;D Dropped to third coming over a crest on a bend. Put my foot down and the engine cut out Coasted about half a mile. About 5 mile from home with no tools not good. Started going round checking everything. No leads off turning over fine not making any attempt to fire. Check wires to fuel pump all fine. Then check battery clamps to find that +ve not fully tightened and one small power cable not making a contact tightened up by hand. Turned the car and fired up.

those cars are ace. And that 3.0 CIH GM engine is a honey, I love 'em. I used to have an F-reg Senator auto, super smooth and 30mpg was no problem.

Been out testing the diff on the damp roads. Quite surprised it seems like its quite a tight LSD. Quite fancy taking it on a track day but I gather the organisers frown on people getting sideways. And its a bit big for autotesting (well competitively anyway, alright if I just fancy wiping out a few cones which I normally do) ;D Might have to see about taking it drifting.

Just been making a few ebay purchases so I guess I will be keeping it for a while. (original idea was just a bit of fun for a few months but I am enjoying it too much).
Spare LSD nothing the matter with the one thats in but planning on competing in the car so not expecting it to last long ;D plus it was only £25. So even if I don't break it its got to be worth it.
Carlton GSi 3000 alloys. The early ones that look a little bit like fuchs. I don't normally bother changing alloys but I really don't like the standard monza ones and I am gonna need a spare set of rims for different tyres. And again these were pretty cheap at £30 for the set. Get some more photos when I get the wheels.

Is that those 2 automatics that just finished a couple of days ago. Looked pretty good.
I remember seeing monza`s rallying so thought it would still be easy getting uprated parts for them. Wrong. Standard parts arent too bad as a lot of parts are shared with carlton`s and senators. Gaz and AVO both do adjustable dampers but so far I havent found a matched set of springs and dampers. Admittedly it does handle fine as it is (gas shocks and progressive rear springs as standard) but its a little bit soft when pushing it. Exhaust, chip and air filter will apparently get 200bhp. 24V senator lump is a straight swap for 205bhp and then can be tuned to curse word after that (it is supposedly a weaker engine than the standard one though). I have just joined the autobahnstormers club which should hopefully help with parts problems. Will let you know
