1969 morris minor

Its not in bad shape really, it needs a couple of small patches underneath, one by the o/s/r spring hanger and one near the jacking point. But other than that it should sail through. Aparently the previous owner spent six grand at the morris minor center having it restored then she won the lottery and gave it away.

I think it could be more of a gipsys curse as it happens.
This is what I found when i decieded to takle the little plate that needed welding on the rear spring hanger.

Oops, wheres me floor gone?
It seems the previous owner paid 6 grand to have a few plates welded in without any of the original rust being treated or removed. Not so much restored, more the kind of plating we used to do to Mk3 Escorts to scrape through the next test before being scrapped.
Anyway, this is the O/S/R corner now, after an afternoons expert welding from my mate bazza (cheers mate )

I've hit a wall people. Its one of those situations when you realise the quick tart up is gonna turn into a major rebuild. The other day we started plating up the O/S/R chassis leg, only to find the rot has got so bad that the rear axle has started to punch through into the boot floor. I havent got any pics because I was so curse word off I just went home and left it.
I figure I've got three options;
1. Just plate it up as best I can and worry about it at the next M.O.T, or flog it before the M.O.T's due.
2.Cut the floor out and get hold of some repair panels and restore it as best I can.
3. Cut the whole floor out and build a new chassis out of 80x40 box and turn it into a proper animal.

Now I'd love to go with option 3 and build a proper street/strip type car but the problem is this was supposed to be a quick rebuild so I'd have a runner while I got all creative on the cortina. Not only that but I'm fully aware of the possibilty of cutting the car to pieces full of good intentions, only to loose enthusiasm/finances and have it end up on fleabay as another unfinished project.
I did consider option 2 for a few moments, but the trouble is I know full well that as soon as I'd got it on the road I'd be itching to cut it to pieces again and put a proper chassis under it and get it in the weeds.
So it looks like option 1 then. Get it legal for now, use it till the tinas sorted then chop the floor out and build a proper car.
Sorry for rambling on but I just needed to get that off my chest ;D
Trouble is its so tempting to just go in there and chop the lot out....

On the plus side I was at an autojumble the other day in pitsea an picked up a set of motorbike coilovers for a tenner. I think there just the job for putting on the front to help the torsion bars and stop the trunions from punching through the inner wings as I've heard can happen when you go this low .
