retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=114885143928th May: Fitted the new wheel bearing and got it on the ground for the first time ever today! I am reeeaaaally excited! Good news is... I live at the end of a 200 metre long driveway at the top of a hill! Me: Extremely happy! With Caterham nosecone: Kelly and I also painted two of the wheel drums on the trailer, and fitted new brake shoes. Enjoy! It hasn't come out much since due to rain and cold etc. Over the summer I did loads to the trailer and a little on the car, small bits of welding.

retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=11571378541st September Well day started with me putting the steering rack in the right place! Basicall involved moving it down the bracket a bit. You can see in this that the steering arm is now fairly in line with the bottom wishbone. Then after lunch.... the engine! Started by preparing the engine hoist! My dad made it out of a few pieces of 2x2, some skirting board and a random piece of angle iron, but it seems plenty strong enough! Next, wheeled the engine into place and started to lift. I thought that having had the sump off for over a year there wouldnt be any oil left in it! So, bolted the sump back on and lifted it up..... and a massive pool of oil appeared! Visible in this picture! Up up up and lots of newspaper! Up up up and the car wheeled underneath. Down down down and into the bay! And roughly into position (will be a bit further to the o/s) And some other random pictures I took ;D Enjoy! Adam

It will come out again when it warms up a bit in the spring, and we get rid of the bloody Volvo! Next year I will have it moving under its own steam. I will! Why don't you believe me?

Nice. And the oil cool'd Gixxer engines were from the late 80's anyways werent they? (I'm rusty with bikes) so thats retro too!
What power does that engine put out out of interest?

Originally put out 140bhp at the crank (its a very late '92 one with big carbs), so I'm expecting probably 100bhp or a little more at the wheels.

Thought I'd bring this one back to the top as it's time to get going again.
2007 list:
Finish rear suspension (add bracing). Mount roll bar properly. Fab up proper engine mounts. Finish the pedal box. Paint the chassis. Get propshaft made. Attempt to make an exhaust. Make the brakes work.
Thats what I want this year... and with GCSEs asw well its gonna be tricky!

Fun list! GCSE's are teh gay but you can do that whole list in your study leave ;D
Do all the cateringham/Locost/Westfield (any differences) panels all fit your framework?
Once got a ride round a track in an R1 engine'd mini and i couldnt belive how the bike engine screams at top revs, sort of pierces your ears!
What will it weigh when complete? Uber power-to-weight i suppose?

Should weigh 450kgs or so. Not as light as it could be due to steel floor and extra strengthening, but I'm not complaining! Stuart taylor Locost panels all round I'll get them on once everything else is done cause you'll never get them off again
