Some would argue that it isn't retro, some would say it is (being a Lotus 7 replica) so I thought I would give some info on it anyway. Basically, we bought it half finished 2-years ago planning on having it finished by the time I am 16, so I can start hillclimbing. The idea was to make it as simple as possible, easy to maintain etc. so an oil cooled GSXR1100 bike engine was about as simple/light weight as you get. None of it will be paricularly expensive or difficult to replace (incase I crash it ;D ). Thats one reason why we chose ford sierra based IRS at the rear, rather than an escort live axle. Anyway, I hope you guys approve of me posting this. Adam

My dad wants to race me when its finished. Me in my Locost, him in the scooby. I keep telling him that the scooby only has a power to weight ratio of 150bhp/t, and the Locost will have a PTWR of 300bhp/t, but he just wont listen.

But have you had any real practice in a bike powered locost? ;D
Where as your dad must know the scoob inside out?

Won't make a difference, if you have something like a 3.5 diff and 13" wheels you'll cream him all the way upto 100. My Striker 'Blade was sub 4secs 0-60 and about 8secs 0-100... ;D BB

Thats well impressive, its giving me ideas too What kind of gearbox/clutch assembly are you using?

Use the std clutch / gearbox assy... With the 'blade you can use stiffer springs from the blackbird clutch, I think, and always use the semi synth oil (its thicker and works better with the wet clutch with the extra weight). Apart from that it is a custom two piece prop through a center bearing to a std (usually escort) rear axle. Locoster, are you going to fabricate the rear wishbones to get the wheels square to the ground? ISTR that if you use std stuff you end up with masses of neg camber, which looks good for the pictures but does nowt for tyre wear or grip. Also, you'll know this already, use the right tyres A539's are right on the limit for this weight of car. Something like a Yoko A021R or a Yoko A048R is a cracking tyre. MUCH cheaper in 13" guise too... (and you'll save weight versus a 14" wheel) A 185 65 13 is a nice size... Good luck fella! BB

They're A021Rs on the wheels I am using rear wishbones from Stuart Taylor, but fabricating the rest of the rear. It uses shortened sierra driveshafts to keep the right track. Adam

Plus, the handbrake mechanism on the rear discs make 13" wheels impossible.

Rear disks! The decadence! Nice one, I see that you are using the old KN slotted starmags, I had the solid versions of 'em, thought that they looked ;D ;D Re: the rear wishbones; sounds like you have got it well covered, always much nicer to see a proper job with wheels square to the ground rather than the early westfield versions that look like the backside of a Triumph Spitfire! I just realised I haven't updated this thread in over a year!
Well, due to school and stuff it hasnt got much further, although the rear suspension is finished and I'm hoping to get it rolling sometime soon! After that its all painting.

I thought I would add these posts to this thread, seeing as it's the one in the awards thread!
2006 has gone down the drain, due to hitting more and more problems along the way!
Anyway, here's the main updates from this year, and I'll keep the updates in this thread next year.
