What a corker! You don't see many of them about these days... What's it like getting parts for it?

What a corker! You don't see many of them about these days... What's it like getting parts for it? To be honest it's a bit rubbish getting certain bits, most of the running gear is lancer so thats o.k, but trim/body parts and lights are a complete pig to find, I'd really like a new rear bumper and rear quarter badge and some spare rear lights but the chrome bumper model like mine was only sold for two years and the later stuff is all different

I thought it was about time I rescued this thread from page 30! History: 2003-2004 I saw it for sale by the side of the road in May 2003 with no mot or tax, a slipping clutch and a few worn suspension bits etc... even though I'd always liked J cars I had never even heard of a Sapporo but I bought it there and then. Speaking to the guy I bought it from, it turned out that he had only bought it recently from an old boy that he had done some work for, The old boy had bought it from his local Colt dealer, Denver Autos (skid parish) in Bury st edmunds as an ex demonstrator when it was one years old. He had then owned it untill he gave up driving in 2003. The guy I bought it from had bought it to "do up" but after only owning it for a month decided that he didn't have the time so put it up for sale again. When I got it home nobody else could see the potential, even though the body had been restored by the first owners son at some point it still needed plenty of recommisioning. Over the next year I replaced the clutch,Radiator, most of the front steering arms, reconditioned the front lower suspension, replaced the battery, starter and alternator, painted the front headlight filler panel and detrimmed the sides. I also sourced some Fondmetal wheels from an S12 nissan 200sx and matched the springs up with some lowered ones for a Mk3 fiesta and a Mk2 golf Although it now looked loads better than before I wasn't that keen on the wheels, even though they were very similar to the origional 14" steels in style I thought they were still a bit modern looking so decided to have them stripped and powder coated black. The engine bay was in pretty good condition but it did need a bit of tidying, I painted the airbox black and gave it a good clean. A subtle change that made a lot of differance was stipping the rear light lenses and grill of all the chrome that had tarnished and flaked off over the years, I chose to paint it all a dark graphite grey as well as the rear centre panel. I also made a new GS/r badge from a skyline GT/R and a vauxhall GS badge as my origional was knackered... This is how the "finished" car looked in 2004 when I went to RCS and got flyered by somebody from Retro-Rides.

2005-2006 Mrsigma was very kind to supply me with a new old stock "coltsport" four branch exhaust manifold, which I later found out was a genuine mitsubishi part! (I just need to find the webber twin 40's manifold that goes with them) This was fitted along with a J style silencer which I cut into the rear valance, the rest of the system was made from stainless steel by a friend of mine and sounds sweet. (the sticker is there to cover up the holes from the fog light : Early in 2006 I removed the cylinder head and had the ports opened up and the valve seats recut by Holbay engineering. The guy was very impressed by the head and said is was "much better than the Sh*t ford was making 25 years ago!" unfortunatly I haven't been able to find a camshaft for it as the standard one is really restricting any gains I might have got from the head mods. Mankey sludged up head. Really grotty valve gear was slugged up so bad I had to brush it with a brass bruush before I could dismantle it ( normally this set up springs apart when removing) Head removed Nice shinney cylinder head back, ready to go on... Last gasket set in the country for this engine! Looking much nicer now Finally after waiting for three and a half months my new wheels turn up two days before C.a.R.S! New tyres and wheels on and ready to go New wheels cause much grinding out on the exhaust now. Hmmm! I need to raise exhaust or fit a turbo and bin centre silencer Last minuite addition for C.a.R.S was my genuine Japanese illuminated licence plate, I haven't got around to fitting the rear one yet but it's the best addition I've made for confusing pedestrians!

Glad you all like it.... ...I've removed the gulf and 79 stickers and finally found another Sapporo script for the n/s/r quarter since that last picture, I've also been hard at work on the interior, pics to follow soon.
