Here's a few piccies of my pride and joy! Seen here with a friend... 1800cc DOHC 16v pushing out 140bhp approx. Mods: de-chromed, Alpina-type 17inch wheels, cat removed, panel filter...that's about it. Planned: Not much. H&R handling kit would be nice...smoked front indicators (awaiting delivery)...

As you know I am usually over-flowing with vitriol and contempt for "styling" products. However this morning I have had a minor change of heart and spent a whole 6 minutes of my life applying these rather fetching smoked indicators to the iS... And I'm sure you'll agree the are a marked (but very subtle) improvement over the old orange ones.

Very nice but where's the proper iS front lip spoiler?

Very nice but where's the proper iS front lip spoiler? Ah, now there's a matter for debate. I personally don't like the iS "lip spoiler". IMO it looks a bit silly having a massive dam at the front and then no kit elsewhere. I got absolutely flayed alive by the lemmings / sheep on e30zone for holding this opinion, but it's my choice - I think that the lip spoiler completely messes with the car's clean lines! The car was never specced with one from new - about the only optin it didn't get!

They say that god is in the details....so I just fitted myself these lovely smoked side repeaters to compliment the ones applied to the front last week. yum yum! Also replaced all the airlines that have been causing me grief of late. Joy!

Looking good! My Dad had an E30 323i, I loved it! It was the pre-facelift one though. Must dig out some pics...

BM really did pull off a tasteful facelift though didn't they. I think everything on the later E30 looks just right. A very nice example you have there Mr B.
Are you going to follow the prefferred style of boot scraping on the floor, bonnet in the air that I see around here?! Why do people do that to E30s?

That odd stance you're on about is caused by people using cheap lowering kits, that chop -60mm out all round. I reckon it makes them look very silly...so no chance of that on this motor! For most e30's a -60front / -40 rear drop works a treat. It would seem though that these kits are not suitable for use on the m-tech equipped cars like this one. (park a standard e30 next to an M3 or 318iS and you'll see why. My 316 looked like it was on stilts compared to this one!) The only way this one is going to get closer to the earth is with an H&R coil-over set-up. And that's some serious £££. Best put on my "Mike Brewer" mask and get wheeler dealin' if I'm ever going to afford it!

Mmmm H&R stuff is high quality. Have you considered KW or FK coilovers aswell? FK do two types Königsports with Koni inserts and ultra configurable or Hisports which are cheaper, less adjustment but still top quality.
PS. If you ever want to get cheaper bits from Germany, drop me a line and I'll be able to help out with the lingo.

(Do the different versions have names/terms?) The tail lights I think and the front spoiler... Just prefer the early ones for some reason.

Nice 318iS - almost bought a 1990 320 just like that. I had to wait a few more years though and in 1998 I bought this BMW 318iS new Metallic black with the M spec. Sold it in 2003 - enjoyed it but it was a magnet for vandals and was scratched a few times These are pics taken when I was working in Dublin in 2000

Any bimmer that hasn't got Lexus light clusters fitted and pseudo chrome wheels is alright by me, isn't it funny how the Alpina style rims have been copied by the likes of TSW et al over the years?

How much of a difference did the Viper chip make? I always thought about fitting one to my iS but didn't think it was going to be worth it for a small increase in performance.

The guy claims 25bhp, but reckon you'd only see that under "ideal" conditions, with a fair bit of other stuff being tweaked too. It's probably something more akin to +5 or +10bhp...which for £60 is a pretty fair exchange I reckon. Unlike those cheap resisitors though, this chip only really changes stuff when you're hammering, so for day to day pootling it keeps the characteristics much as before...
